Aquatopia
Hey folks i saw a truly stunning small peru striped panaque in my LFS and instantly wanted it but at $130 its out of my price league. Wondered if anyone had managed to breed these or knew of how i can get one for a cheaper price ? I know - how cheap can you get, but as i am studying full time pennies are tight Used to (and still do) love marines, and its ironic that i chose trops cos the fish are (generally) cheaper. The irony lies with the fact that the fish i like in trops are all expensive, esp cos you tend to buy more than one !!

Faran
The fish sold as "Peru Striped Panaques" are commonly known as Flash Plecs and given the L-number L204. You can find more info on the species here on PlanetCatfish - http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... ies_id=126 Here's some pics of one of mine... Some by Andrew_W... And some by flatfish, including a link to his attempts at breeding... http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/flash- ... highlight= They're expensive fish, but one of my faves and worth every penny to a pleco-fanatic! I know - how cheap can you get, but as i am studying full time pennies are tight Well, NZ Discus claims to have bred these "20 odd years ago" but that's a mystery to us plec fans as they weren't really discovered/exported until a few years ago.... he did an import of fairly inexpensive ones a little over a year ago now. As for price, the only ones available in shops any more are from a different lot than the adults that many of us now own and are trying to breed. As they've made a stop in Singapore the price has gone up dramatically with that additional middle-man, so if you're lucky enough to see one for anything less that $150 it's a good price. one of my females enterd the males cave today was in there for awile an then the male chased her out haha fingers crossed ay  Exciting bro! Best of luck with that! he was that size (6-7cm) when i got him, only had him a few weeks although he does look bigger through the tank That's a nice fish for a great price! Do you mean you only had him for a few weeks when that pic was taken, or you no longer have it? I see him in your current thread about "beetroot" so assume he's still alive and living in your tank?
