Weight of fish tanks

You can estimate the weight by working on 1kg per litre + the glass + the rocks and gravel

So a 500l tank probably weights about 600kg.

Thats 3 fat people sitting on a couch :o

If you would worry about that, then best get your house foundations checked.

If you cant get under your house it's likely that you have a concrete slab floor, no sensible sized tank is going to damage that. Make sure the tank stand spreads the weigth out over the full length, or set it up on a big slab of plywood to spread the weight evenly.

Cheers

And fat people wont be sitting on your couch for potentially years at a time. Short term pressure may be fine but long term can be a different story :)

5 foot tanks can vary from 300L and up (ive seen a 800L 5 footer) so it would depend on the dimentions as to how much it would weigh

The design floor load of a domestic dwelling is equivalent to a tank 200mm high with the weight evenly distributed over the floor so any aquarium (other than a goldfish bowl) is a compromise. The main thing is to evenly distribute the load onto the floor. I have two aquariums on a stand where the weight of water would be 5 times the design load of the floor in a house 70 years old with a wooden floor and they haven't gone thrugh the floor yet.
