Recommended Posts

Just setup this tank for lionheads and decided I need a 3ft tank so am on the lookout. Have 5 fish in here, is that to many?/ Also have internal filter in pic and not sure if that is enough water flow as I know they need a good water flow.Does anyone keep these fish and have any advice, infolionheadtank.jpg

Great setup! Good to see people making a special place for them instead of just tossing them in with Malawis :) I think they filter will do something like 600-800lph so will be HEAPS of current for them - until it gets filled with gunk. Keep cleaning the sponge regularly and you should be sweet!

That looks excellent bulldogod... they should do very well :D

I keep Lionheads aswell as a few other African keepers... I have some in a tank set up of their own and they definately love the rockwork and good current.

Actually Blue I also had some of mine in a Malawi tank however as of yesterday stripped the whole tank down due to revamping the whole tank. The ones I kept in the Malawi setup thrived! :) Not only did I find all the big healthy fat critters but we found their family of young who are in beautiful condition and are now in a grow out tank. My Malawi tank had a powerhead running and the mbuna and the Lionhead tank mates loved it! Other keepers have had the same success keeping them in with Malawi setups.

Most of the lionheads ive seen have been with malawi's and seem to thrive and breed and do well :) I dont see any need (except for breeding) to have them in their own or a species tank but each to their own thats for sure, they're cool fish! I have a male and im getting a female this weekend so fingers crossed for them being compatible..
