Tank mate for a Bichir?!

Hey guy's :)

I've just set up a new tank for my bichir and was wondering if anyone has ideas on a good tank mate... I keep giving him neon's as friends but they just disappear :P

The tank is only 3' so I don't have that much room - I was thinking maybe a Butterfly fish? I want to try and keep it as natural as possible when it comes to fish so only African's really.

Any ideas??!

Yeah I used to have some silver distichodus, awesome fish but they would eat the plants and I want to have a planted tank for once!

I did think about ctenopoma's too but I think they would be too big...

Pencil's are nice fish too and might just be big enough - but aren't they from S. America??!

Thanks for the idea's :)

Yeah King Killies sound interesting...

I've stuck a post in the killie section to try and find out from some of the experts!;

I've had a look on google for a King Killie but couldn't find any pics... anyone got any leads on that??!

Kribs are definatly a good idea - I've thought about them but really don't want to start breeding them again, cause I don't really want a pair taking over the tank, will probably get a nice male though :)

Yeah I like syno's and I've got one with my Fronts and have had a few in the past, but I think they would get a big in the long run...

I think elephant nose's are a big ugly really... Interesting fish I know but not my type!

African knife would be very nice! But can we get them here??

Yeah I think I'm going to go for a butterfly and kribs - maybe just the one, maybe a pair - I didn't really want to have kribs breeding in there but I guess if I put a pot for them right at one end they shouldn't cause too much trouble...

Are the African Knifes available? I've never seen any...
