Milet
Im not too experienced with cycling since ive had my main tank since way before i even knew about cycling and i lost alot of fish whn i started. But now with all our rearanging furniture etc i have no properly cycled tanks for me to take media from. I have a 4 foot tank with a fluval 404 with all brand new media and its been running for a few days and the temp is all stable. Im hoping to get this tank set up as fast as possible, becuase i have my fish for it all bunched into a smaller tank. Could i cycle the tank with my pair of angels? They will be looking to spawn again soon so this could give them a chance too maybe. any advice?
ryanjury
Id say steal some media from one of yoru other tanks (doesn't have to be much) and chuck the angels in.. keep an eye on the water conditions in there but a pair of angels shouldn't make too much mess in a 4ft tank maybe take it easy on the food for a week or so. alanmin4304
Put your new filter in the old tank and stir up as much gunge as you can then put the filter in the new tank with a couple of fish.
HummingBird
Squeezing out a sponge from a cycled tank's filter will get you a good dose of the bacteria you want too, as will a handful of gravel.

Navarre
Try a search on fishless cycling. I can remember reading somewhere that you use amonia to kick start your bacteria. You need to test 1 or 2 times a day and add household amonia dependant on results to get the cycle started. Cant remember much else HTH Nav
