Faran
Sup quack, really don't want to muck up this thread any further by hijacking it as well Will PM you with a description. Evil- if you think the new tank is showing off, it's really necessary as the tank frankly scares me. Showing off would be putting up pics of the new fish room

Faran
Thanks to the mods who graciously gave me a space to talk tanks! hi quack The bracing on my current tank is done by cutting pieces of glass at least 10cm wide and 10mm thick the exact length of the inside diameters on all 4 sides, then siliconing all three sides of the long braces along the front and back, folowed by siliconing in the side bracing and making sure that all three sides of each brace are properly siliconed, as well as a healthy bond of silicone securing the side braces to the front and back braces. I would place the front and back braces in position with the tank laying down and use clamps to hold in place (doing one at a time), and once the front and back are done stand the tank up and use clamps to put the side braces in position and clamp them to the front and back to hold in place while the silicone sets. Use LOTS of silicone!!! You're gonna trip when you see my next tank. I'm altering the same style of bracing to do something a little different... And following this PM quack asked for a pic of the bracing... To answer your previous question, I've never had any problems with jumpers and I fill my tank to max capacity (lowered the water level to take this pic so you can see the bracing properly). Most fish "jump" by following a glass wall upwards and exiting the tank, which usually means landing on the other side of the glass.... this bracing prevents fish from doing anything aside from getting a headache by acting as a glass fence. Ah, the fishroom. Barely finished plumbing the drainage and installing tanks. Excuse the mess! This is half of the room, each tank holds about 360L of water for a grand total of about 2900L.... I'll do a write up on this someday if I can be bothered
Brianemone
the bracing on my 4 foot tank is very similair, does the job very well and is less intrusive than NZ's standard overkill and inconvenient norm.

Alan
I split it and started another thread as it was intruding on the other thread. Now get your A into G and get up some pics of your fish room. Hope you have some progress ones too. You don't know how much it inspires others contemplating it to do something about it. Faran
All good, better somewhere else than hijacking the thread. At least I can respond here rather than PMs Never kept any progress info on the room as I was taking a break from the forums during most of the development.... yup, we're 6 months in and barely filling tanks! The only pic I can be bothered sharing is above, this is a pretty expensive project and progress is VERY slow. Will be another payday before I even do the filtration and heating  then it'll be a matter of scavenging useful bits from the old tanks and moving everything over slowly... Faran
the bracing on my 4 foot tank is very similair, does the job very well and is less intrusive than NZ's standard overkill and inconvenient norm. Yup, just browsed your thread and it's very similar. I'd prefer full pieces that spanned and joined to three sides from inside the tank rather than the sides sitting on top and the partial front and back siliconed to them... of course, it's a good bracing design and definitely better than the commercial tank builders product, as they're designed for common needs. Yours and probably mine were designed as Marine tanks with MH lighting in mind. I just remembered that a cigar shark jumped from a tank while I was in Hastings last week and it had a good sized lip to get over.... lid was off like an open tank.
