Insect Direct
can you use something like these for a freshwater planted tank http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.asp?id=90239993 Or do you need this sort of mh which seems to have a different bulb http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 765157.htm And or what about hps / high pressure sodium lights like the switched on gardener sells for growing tomatoes , has any one tried those or is there any reason they wouldnt work as good as a mh? Sorry for all the questions Im new to all of this and admit I have no idea.
Ira
Most High pressure sodium bulbs have a very low kelvin rating. Should work well for a planted tank, just very yellow. There are a couple marine bulbs, Iwaki makes them I think, that have high pressure sodium ballast bulbs that have a much higher Kelvin.
