polgara
today, christams day, I have white spot I think. The worst hit are my clowns, and I so don't want to loose them. I have treated with meth blue, but I am really worried as one is covered with spots. Is there anything else I can do???
suemack
hi Polgara have you tested your water yet to see if any ammonia/nitrite present? From what I can gather slowly raising the temp of the tank to 28 - 30 degrees will help to speed the white spot cycle......do it slowly though. Combine this with increased aeration, daily w/changes and good gravel cleaning helps get rid of the cysts once they have left the fish. BTW did you take the carbon out of your filter ........if you have any in there? hope you had a good xmas (cept for the fishies :-? ) sue
polgara
One is dead, the other not looking to good. Treated with salt, think I killed them
Robbo
Hi Polgara, I would not treat whitespot with meth blue, it is not designed for whitespot. There are special products for this, see your LFS. Hope you don't loose anymore Cheers Robbo
Alan
Beg your pardon Robbo?? That is what is recommended for whitespot, with a rise in the heating, which increases the cycle of the ich, so as they come into the water column and are killed by the M/B and also aeration, because the oxygen content of the water drops with the water increase ot the water temperature. BUT For clown loaches, you are in trouble with the meth. blue. As you are with other scaleless fish, ie, the rainbow, and redtail sharks. polgara
I have no clowns now, they are both dead, and it was all my fault.
