Not shy or skittish fish

Well, I have 2 dawf gourami and 2 platy that are shy and sometime skittish. Unless they are hungry they do the hiding in my 60L tank and we have to look hard to find them.

Is there any fish that is below 6cm, not shy or skittish and not aggrasive?

Nice beautiful colour will be a plus.

Thanks :D

Despite its name, a Siamese Fighter (a.k.a. Betta) might be the answer. This will eat baby platys but otherwise they're normally quite harmless and they're too slow to be of much harm anyway. Definately some awesome colour and finnage :)

Platys dont normally hide in the tank, mine are always begging at the front, perhaps you need more or maybe they just need to get used to you, also make sure nobody is thumping on the tank or anything that might be scaring them.

I'm looking after another persons platys at the moment, took them about a week to get used to me as their new feeder. I've got platy's downstairs that all swim in to one corner of the tank and start splashing about whenever I'm in visable range of the tank (~5-10m), I did raise them from birth tho.

Yep i agree with all of the above!!!

and i think you need to get more platties, they will soon realise that you are the one who brings food :D Plus you can get really beautiful colours. Danios aren't shy and are active, try adding about 5 or if you want nice colours you might be able to get hold of some of the red danios

I also have a tank with Platies and they're as far from shy as you can get -- will take food from a hand, nibble on fingers, never hide etc. I believe your fishs' skittish behavior stems from there not being enough of them. The aquarium I have with mature adults has 6 individuals. Even in my fry tank, which has about 30 baby Platies currently, they're completely friendly... not shy at all no matter who approaches.

So, yeah, I concur... up the numbers to total at least 5 individuals. Try to keep the m:f ratio at 1:3, though, otherwise the males will bicker a bit.

Danios were suggested... I don't disagree that they're decent tankmates, however, be advised that there will be no chance of Platy fry surviving. Also, I noticed with my Platies, the Danios because of their frenzied ways and need to be in a school of no less than 6, cause the Platies to spook a lot easier. They're an okay tankmate for the Platies, but not the most ideal. I personally would not recommend a Betta with Platies because the Betta will, more often than not, end up turning on the Platies and tearing their fins and ripping their scales off. It really isn't a good long-term match with most Bettas. They are slow, yes, but they also stalk other fish in the aquarium and can/do inflict major damage.

Anyway, just more info. for you to consider with your shy Platy issue resolution options... Good luck :)

I have platties and a fighter together with no rips or tears or anything everyones happy, I have about 10 platies and babies with my figher, and also have two tiger barbs in there too with no problems and two kribs.

Depends abit on the fish though, but i have never come across a agressive fighter

My Betta is the most people friendly fish I have. He comes to the front of the tank whenever you are near and wraps his fins around my fingers when my hand is in the tank. He is very curious about anything new in the tank. He lives with breeding swords and although he may eat fry at birth, he's not greedy and I have plenty living happily in the tank. Sometimes he will chase the adult swords but he has never done them any harm, he just likes to show them who's boss. He also has the bonus of being very beautiful and don't he know it!!! Get one, look after him well and you won't be sorry.

Oh and I'd like to add the Krib, I have a lone female who's just joined the community tank and she's very outgoing, hangs out all over the tank and sometimes displays her lovely pink tummy. As yet she shows no aggression. I'd heard they spend a lot of time hiding but not this girl and she has plenty of caves to choose from if she wants.
