sounds like blue green algae mate, if u want a quick fix use erthromycin, although it will probably reappear again unless you find the problem thats causing it in the first place. some others may be able to tell u the cause?

if you come to tga i can give u some erthromycin if u cant get locally

if its cayno (blue green algae) it will be just sitting on the surface and you will be able to syphon it out easily. But either way the problem is because your tank is out of balance most commonly caused by too many nutirants. Check your not feeding too much, increase your water changes, and add more plants.

I get a very attractive moss like algae growing on some of my driftwood. It doesn't spread to the plants and looks good so I leave it.

One of my tanks gets too much natural light and a lot of green algae on the glass. I peg an old curtain around it on very sunny days but leave the tank lights on. This works well for me as I can remove the curtain again in the evening when I'm home from work and can enjoy the tank. Maybe blocking out some of the natural light might work for your tank
