snookie
any africans suitable ??? any tanganikans ?? for a 2 ft tank ?? thanks in advance
Afrikan
A nice pair of Brichardi would go well, and eventually when they spawn, they raise their young and it becomes a community.. mine have just done this, and I am going to leave them to raise their fry, will be amazing to watch them through the progress, they seem like excellent parents so far. My guys are in a big enough tank so will be able to keep the whole clan  These little Tangs are definately underated in my opinion. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/n_brichardi.php I have some young adults if you are ever after a pair. snookie
do you have any pics of set up and how do you sex them ??. also is ther any mouth brooders suitable ?? cheers
Afrikan
Males have longer fin extension and I have found the males are larger than females. Umm nothing really comes to mind snookie with what's available and anything that will stay small enough for that size tank. Most Africans need space for territory, if you are going to be keeping a group of anything.. For example the Malawi Ps. Demasoni... they are a small Pseudo but because they are territorial and rather aggressive you have to keep a decent number and they need a reasonable size tank because of territory issues. They are a very nice fish however That's generally the rule anyway 8) JMHO
ryanjury
I have heard (on cichlid forum) of people keeping 12 demasoni in a 2ft tank and had them breeding etc, they even reckoned it curbed the aggression by having a lack of space... Yeah Bricardi or Pulchers would be ok I guess I think Billaney's tank with the lelupi wouldn't be much bigger than 2 ft would it?
Afrikan
I have read alot of conflicting overseas info stating they need a good sized tank, I wouldn't dream of putting 12 of mine in a 2 foot tank, prior to the 18 we have now, I had a fair few in a just over 2ft tank, and rather a few got cleaned up. A nice pair of Lelu would go nice.. they are another fish that is underated  I think alot of things come down to trial and error, sometimes things work, sometimes they don't. snookie
what about shell dwellers ?? Brichardi sounds like the way to go . do you have them with coke !
Afrikan
On cichlid forums snookie there are people that have 10 or so Dems in a 29 Gallon tank (roughly 110 litres) However they are juvs at this stage.. so hopefully as they mature they will stay settled. Time will tell What are the dimensions of you tank? Litres? Sorry no Coke snookie  Here is a link for shell dwellers: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/shell_species.htm
snookie
Tank is 24inch by 12inch by 12 inch , however many litres that is ?? :-? (brain on holiday )!! are shell dwellers easy to come by ??
ryanjury
I haven't seen any but that doesn't mean they're not around.. Maybe you could upsize slightly to a 3-4ft tank
snookie
i wouldnt be able to go any bigger , just dont like seeing an empty tank  i want to try something different
Afrikan
That's 54 litres.. Haven't seen any true shell dwellers around, however, maybe someone has some hidden out there somewhere
snookie
would a pair of Brichardi be ok . in a 54 litre ? dont be shellfish share your shell dwellers ! if you are out there ?
ryanjury
Im swaying towards 54litres being too small for brichardi at the moment if they get stroppy with each other then they will be dead for sure in a tank that small..
snookie
how bout pair lelupi or is personality the same ??
ryanjury
lelupi are about the same i think I dont know how they are when they've formed a pair but my 3 are pretty nasty even in a 3ft its too small for them.
Afrikan
Lelus are even more so aggressive... My brichardi pairs are a box of birds with one another infact they are rather peaceful with each other when paired. The key is plenty of rock work, is that the only size tank you have snookie? snookie
only tank i have . :-?
Gannet
what about using a 2ft as a grow out tank? is that ok?
ryanjury
yeah for sure I use 2ft's to grow most stuff out to around 2-3cm's or until ive got a spare bigger tank to chuck things into
Tiden
Ive seen Brichardi and Pulchers breeding in 2ft tanks no worrys looking after fry or juveniles after 2 or 3 spawns. But like Afrikan said rockwork helps
snookie
what type of rocks would be recommened ??
Afrikan
Limestone would be good snookie, I definately don't see you having a problem keeping a nice pair in your tank.. you might have to weed out young for space but that can be done Mine are very content in pairs as I said before 8)
