Discusguru
Big airstone in the tank. A lot of surface movement. Fill some fizzy drink bottle and let it float in the tank. Leave the garage door open. ron

herefishiefishie
Have a read of the thread, entertaining  The fan method is great. If it works for me in Sub Tropical Qld, I am sure it will do ok for the kiwis back home like... 8) Frenchy
A.PROPHECY
yea jus saw dat lol is one big fan better than four small ones or sumthn?
herefishiefishie
The more air that passes over the tank the quicker the tank will drop in temp. Surface agitation is important, ie; set the internals high up in the tank, add an air stone... Frenchy
sharn
didnt you say your aros heater stuck on tho? was it in a sump or something? i have used the fan method myself- i found it only dropped my axolotl tank a few degrees (not as low as i needed it to be) but the frozen bottle method wasnt suitable for me as i was out alot and if you dont switch the bottles in even rotations then you will be getting temp swings
A.PROPHECY
yea i thort it stuck on coz the temp was just so high ,ive never seen it like that befor thats why asumed the heater had sumthn to do with it
CrazDevil
Had the same problem 2 weeks ago *temp was 31* and no one was at home to hear the buzzing of my termometer, 3 of my loaches did not survive but the rest did, had my fan running across the tank and no probs since. A.PROPHECY
its weird its night now and my temps stil 29.5deg hmmm and the heaters on the 2 bigger tanks are still coming on even tho there set to 25 and should only come on when the temp goes under that so why are thy coming on when its over that!? im getting a bit lost lol ill see if i can buy some fans tommrow sounds like they seem to work
CrazDevil
I had similar prob as well, my heater set at 26 degrees and although my tank termometer showed 29 degrees, it's still lights up. My only conclusion is that my water circulation in my 400 L tank is not sufficientt (as i put the output of my fluval way up at the top), hence the bottom of my tank is usually colder than the top. To solve the prob, installed a sparer power head at the bottom of my tank, nil complaint so far....... *fingers cross*
A.PROPHECY
yea my spray bar is outa the water at the mo ,hopefuly cooling the water down a bit so did a power head at the bottom help change the temp at all? or just the fans? how many fans you got on it? how big is it/they? CrazDevil
i just assumed that the power head i installed helps circulate the water at the bottom of the tank better. temp has been stable at 28 degrees Normal size fan which i got from K-mart, ?$20 they are on sale now

SpidersWeb
You should never unplug your tank heaters like that. They have thermostats which turn them on when they're needed. If they're set at 26C and the tank is 30C they will not turn on. Unplugging your heater will not lower your tank tempertature at all if its warmer than its set temp. It's just unnessecarily risking your fish because if it does get too cold, there is nothing to kick in and warm the tank.
SpidersWeb
Oh sorry, reason I said that was your last post gave me the impression you thought unplugging heaters would help lower tank temperature. If you're doing it as a safety thing thats all good. Good to clear up though, dont want people unplugging heaters waiting for the tank temp to drop
