GeeTee
Here is a photo of my male.Notice the sunken belly. When I bought him he was like this and the lfs assured me that he wasn't like it when he came in. So he's been feeding well but there is no improvement in his appearance. I've now had him for 5 months. Is there something else wrong with him?

GeeTee
This fella is as happy as,just won't fill out. I would be lucky enough to have a mate that is a vetenary oncologist so I think I shall give him a call.He can get any meds at the right price too. But if anyone knows what I need to be asking him for or the worm/parasite that causes it,please let me know.
Johannes Visser
Sad to see your fish look a bit unhappy, hope you can get to the problem and fix him up! We went a Major hunt to locate a big enough male for our females. Not one of the lfs in Auckland, Hamilton, or Rotorua had any Cobalt's available for the past year. Managed to get one from, Palmerston North just a month ago . He is stunning and is doing his job very well. Best of luck sure you don't want to lose him !!

herefishiefishie
Electric yellows are prone to this too. Some people here will debate over it being a parasite or bacterial. The best medicine you can get & your vet mate will have it, is Metronidazole. {also known as Flagyl} The joys of metro is that it is also very good against anaerobic bacteria. Dose rate is 500-750mg/100lt for 2 or 3 days followed by a water change. {I would repeat the following week too.} Good luck, I tend to have only had this problem with yellows. Some recovered others didn't. The fish stilll eat, swim around but just don't put on the weight. They keep getting slimmer, swim less actively...eventually death. My believe is this is more to do with parasites, as I have had trouble in the past with one yellow passing to another. Funny thing is that it didn't get passed onto other species. :-? GeeTee
Thanks Frenchy i'll see if my mate can access that for me and see what happens. Just found this photo while I was going through some and he has been getting worse as you said Frenchy.

GeeTee
Finished treatment on him 2 weeks ago.As instructed by Frenchy. There seems to be no change at the moment, but he still eats and is generally happy. The bad news is he is shooting blanks with the breeding. My female(only one left out of three)has spat her eggs on the last two occasions,so I was a bit suss that he wasn't doing the job. Collected the eggs a few days ago(47 of them)and put them in my tumbler to have them all go bad. This could go deeper than I originally thought. Not to worry I still have approx 50 fry from another male.Had to get rid of him a while back, killed one of the females days before holding. ryanjury
I have used the same treatment recently on my yellows/cobalt blue with similair problems and they are all fat now and looking awesome.. It does sound like something deeper is up with your one, good work on the other babies good back up.

GeeTee
I've been thinking age for a while too. The lfs assured me that it was bought from him 1 year prior, and was only 1 year old then, but I think I was had.

GeeTee
He has proved me wrong with the eggs. Just sorted the eggs and found 3 out of 47 that are growing tails. Better than nothing, his strike rate isn't very good though.
herefishiefishie
Metro should kill worms too, as it knocks parasites on the head too. The problem is medication sometimes works sometimes dosen't. If the cobalt is too far gone as in damage to internals, not much as you can do. The fact he isn't to fertile leads me that way too.
