ryanjury
I dont know what the filters are like in those tanks personally but dont know of any good filters in those sorts of tanks.. As for stocking you could stick a whole heap in that sized tank I have a 540 litre 5ft and would easily stick say 10 electric blues, 10 yellows and some peacocks, an even nicer display would be all males if he wanted to go that way if its a display tank breeding probably isn't such a big deal.. Afrikan
The Aqua One wet and dry trickle aren't too bad in those tanks, they are adequate, however, they are not a heavy duty filtration... I wouldn't stock that many (when full size) in a Aqua One 6ft without any other form of filtration
herefishiefishie
Multiple males won't work with species like10 electric blues, What you will get is one dominant male bright blue, the rest will step down in colour from not as blue down to grey. If you are after multiples of one species, then mbunas are a better option. eg; electric yellows, demasoni.... Males & females are both nice. If they breed dosen't matter, they will spit. Get eaten, no dramas. Best bet is to get 2-4 of each species of colours you like & later on down the track take out the less dull ones. Fish with red, don't know whats in New Zealand, Protomelea taeniolatus{Red Empress}, Maylandia estherae {Red Zebra}, The red dragon peacock that Afrikan has.....then these have a little reddish in them, red shoulder peacocks, Eureka red peacocks, Red fin Kadangos. Thats all I can think of off hand. The filters on these tank styles are on the light side, as long as stocking of the tank is done slowly, weekly water changes etc, should be right. Rogan, Rogan, Rogan, we are talking about an interesting display tank, not a boring one. Frenchy
Afrikan
Good point on the Electric Blues... thats what we did with our lot, got a fair few, in our 6fter we have 3 males who have dominant colouring, the rest of the males, just the silver dull colour... so will eventually weed them out... Definately frequent water changes if the wet and dry is going to be the only use of filtration, have had smaller similar set up used as a holding tank for smaller Malawi and frequent water changes were a must and kept a close eye on water parameters.. Tropheus
Why oh why would you put malawis in a display tank.... cough.... cough Tell them to forget malawis, put plants in, and then get yellow, red and blue discus Yeah do that and then add one Nimbochromis fuscotaeniatus just to add colour (red). Or before adding the Fusco why not just take a photo of a Discus and put that in a tank. It'll be just as active as a real one but saving them lots of money
