aquab
Hiya, am getting a tank 1500x 500 x 550 and wonder if two heaters would be sufficent to keep the temp stable? My new cichlid tank!!!!!!!!!

Tropheus
Hi two good but one 300w should be ok. Ive never had problems with one. Just make sure its not to small as you dont want the heater to go off and on to many times
sharn
id definatly go for two if you can. i recently changed most of my tanks to two heaters and not long after one failed, i was pretty thankful i had the other one to back it up
Alan
I'd go for two 150's with a reasonable water flow that would be heaps. The advantage of having a smaller wattage is that if one fails on, you have a little more time to save the tank. What fish are you keeping in it? In fact from Tauranga, with reasonable insulation one heater would do. Just depends on the fish and what temp you want to maintain tho. herefishiefishie
Good point about room/house temp Alan. For me it's a case of the heaters are off, the lids are off & the mesh is on. Dam this Qld sun 8) Frenchy

davidb
I am really crap at maths. If I have a 100 L tank I need 150 watts heat aye :-?
herefishiefishie
The usual recommendation is 1W per litre. Resist the temptation to go a higher than needed wattage. If a heater sticks on, boiled fish for dinner. :-? Frenchy
NoToRiOuS
so if i have a 5ft x 20'wx24'h tank would i only need 1 300watt heater?i thought it was 1.5w per litre?or how many would i need?
aquab
Thanks for all the help. Would it be better to have one 300 W or two 150's ? One incase of "Failure" ? * touches wood*. It's going to be my new cichlid tank so was thinking of having the temp about 24-26C.
aquab
We have wooden floors with no insulation under them yet( hopefully before christmas!) and the tank will be in an open plan lounge.
