Loopy
I have a pair of whiptail catfish for about 2 years now. When i first got them them promptly laid and hatched out about 65 babies which lasted about a week before vanishing into thin water. I tried to get them to lay again but they never did. I gave up after a while and popped them in the community tank where they have been for the last probably year and a half (and have probably been breeding like guppies too but i never noticed). I never tried again because of the lack of tank space and just kinda lost hope. We have had a really bad time with catfish in general. We just can't seem to keep the darn things alive!! (well except for the whips) BUT early this morning i was woken by hubby saying we have whiptail eggs!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I have recently had a bit of space so i thought i would try them again. So they were moved to a tank by themselves for a month or so and they did nothing. Last week i chucked them in a tank with a good spawn of angels and they laid!!! There are probably only about 8-10 eggs but if they make it to hatching i want every little tip, hint and piece of advice on how to feed and keep the darn things alive!!!! so PLEASE bombard me with info and advice!!!! Caryl
Try emailing or sending a PM to Rob as he has bred them. I haven't seen him in here for ages so a personal approach may be needed. he will have been busy lately as he works at a uni.
evilknieval69
Zuchini is your friend!!! When my BN breed i put all the baby into one of them floating isolation tanks by themselves, and gave the fresh zuchini (well i have used cucumber mainly but zuchini is better) everyday. This is how i have raised over a hundred BN babys, and im pretty sure whiptails would be the same, just make sure you have an airstone or something in with them as i lost a huge spawn from bad water !!! HTH
Loopy
eggs were gone when i got home from work just before. But i am not too worried really! still happy that they laid in the first place! :bounce: :bounce: i will just leave them in that tank and hope it is not another 2 years before till they lay again!
