Skimmer question~ Recirculating or in sump

Hi~

I am doing some research on hobbyist preference on recirculating skimmer and in sump skimmers.

After a quick search on the Internet some hobbyist mention that recirculating skimmer seems to perform slightly better than in sump ones. (Because recirculating model needle wheel pump only require to create bubbles and the in sump model require to draw water into the skimmer plus creating bubbles) (The recirculating model would cost around 40% more than in sump model)

However some hobbyist that chooses the recirculating model is not on the performance but because they can’t fit the in sump version in their sump.

I want to see if hobbyist is willing to spend more money for the slight increase in performance on the recirculating model? Also will they consider rebuilding their sump to fit the in sump version so they can save some money?

Thanks

Ben
