nor_wester
I recently brought a Fluval 304 on Trade-Me . All seems to be fine, motor running etc, but for some reason won't pump. Before trying, I replaced the motor seal, hoses etc to stop any minor problems...so i thought. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts on this matter. :-? Insect Direct
It may just have some air in it, sometimes canisters can be tricky to get started, maybe try putting another pump on the intake hose to give it a kick start it or get the garden hose and do the same thing, I find that some times gets them going! Blackadder
Make sure the pipes leading to and from the filter are full of water, otherwise it'll just be trying to pump air. You could suck on the outlet hose till you see water coming up the hose, then stick it back in the tank and it should run. I've had one of these running for years no problems. suphew
Put a bucket below the tank and run the filter like a syphon (i.e. put the outlet into the bucket). Silly question but you dont have the flow control tap thingy turned off?? both this one and the release lever should be all the way down. CraigMcN
Here's my Fluval starting scheme.... Make sure the outlet is above the water level. Unplug the hoses and open the grey aqualock tap above a bucket. Wait till all the water has drained out of the outlet hose, and the inlet hose is rapidly siphoning water from the tank. plug the hoses back in and open the aqualock. you should hear water draining into the filter. Wait till the filter is completely full, the water has stopped draining, and the output pipe has filled up to the level of the inlet. (Your ears will tell you, wait till the gurgling stops Turn the filter on, and it should just go. Fluvals seem to have big problems if there is water in the output pipe, but air in the filter body. The air stops the impeller pumping water, and the full pipe stops the air getting out. C.
fatdog
I had a filter I hadn't used for years do similar. While holding the main body of the impeller I found the blades spun freely. I put a drop of superglue on it... and away it went.
