k8
Hi guys, I have had three female platties in my 40L tank for the past three months. Water conditions are fine (pH, nitrates, nitrites, ammonia etc), and yet one of the girls has a case of (what I assume is) fin rot that she just can't shake. It started off with white cloudy patches at the edges of her tail almost as soon as she was transferred to the new tank. Soon after, the tail turned ragged and she got cloudy eyes. She also grew a fairly large lump just behind the fleshy part of her tail. I added about 20g of tonic salt to the tank, and dosed it with 'Wunder Tonic' for a few days until her tail had grown back. (Wunder tonic = meth blue, mal green, acriflavine, & quinine) This sequence has now replayed multiple times, and I just can't seem to win. I've given up dosing the whole tank (in the vain hope that the silicone will shed its pretty blue colour) and now give her daily salt baths. This seems to keep her alive, but little else. She is much smaller than her sibs, has ragged fins and tail, and cataracts. But she feeds and behaves fairly normally, with just the occasional scratch against the log. I am a novice, and can't help but feel that I'm doing something horribly wrong. Any advice would be very gratefully received!!
fishboi
sounds like ur doing everything right. keep up with the salt bath and add melafix in the main tank to help her heal. are there plenty of place for her to hide in the tank if she needs to? feeling save and unstressed is a big help. usually fin rot and fungus is a sign of poor water condition. make sure the water is really clean. good luck
