rossco
Anybody know (or have a best guess ) as to whether you can keep a 'shoal' of firefish eg purple firefish together. Maybe 4-5? Seems to be conflicting advice where I have looked...would they 'shoal' or just spread throughout a tank staking out their own territory in the substrate/rockwork? :-? :-? Probably need a fairly big tank either way...
reef
From my limited knowledge of reef keeping you cant keep them in shoals as they start to pair up and kill of the others.
rossco
You've probably kept a fish or two together judging by the number of stars your avatar has got...yours is likely to be a pretty good 'guess' then!
suphew
I had two for a few months and they stayed in different parts of the tank. They were both out all the time, and eating etc, but then each one (about a month apart) started hiding and then disappeared never to be seen again. From what I have read this isn't uncommon??? reef
yours is likely to be a pretty good 'guess' then! it was an educated guess. I had a load of the purple type in quarantine a few months ago and they were fine for a week, then they started to pick on one after another. I would take the one that was hammered out and then they would start on another. These were the purple ones. I found the red fire fish are a bit friendlier with each other. also the firefish can jump out of your tank. they are great for nano tanks . If you want schooling fish I found Apogon leptacanthus to be great fish.
