shiuh
hi all, my bronze and albino cories has been really quiet lately. its been few weeks since theyve bred. these are matured adults, typical long males 5-7cms and good sized fat plump females breeding stock. i have my last 2 spawned with good numbers of eggs around 300 - 500. most got fungied and some died. i was not very experience at that time because it is my first attempt spawning corys. didnt bother raising the frys because it wasnt a good number of batch, only 8 survived at the end. thinking in mind that will breed again next time to get more frys. after that...they just very quiet for me. i am using bare tank. i tried feed them good food, bbs, blood worms, water change daily, but nothing is working. i even have tried separating males and females for a week. feed them live food, bloodworms etc. then put them back again with cooler temp and lots of water movement also with added airstone running. the males seem to be interested and start chasing females in schools...but the females still havent spawned. it seems like the females kept running away from males (obviously) or either she cant find a spot for depositing eggs. last time theyve spawned, eggs are just layed on the glass. these buggers should be easy enough to spawn...why dont they do it anymore?? Just wondering are there any tips from corydoras gurus out there that can help.
alanmin4304
I used to seperate them permanently until spawning time. Feed them up heaps and you will spot easily when the females are full of eggs. Try one pair only ( sometimes one lays and one eats) and put into normal tank. Do a water change at night with cold water from the tap and drop the temperature a few degrees. They will normally spawn next day. Remove fish when they have finished as the will start eating eggs often. I used to set them up Friday night so as to watch them Saturday morning. Good luck. alanmin4304
If you turn the lights out they will often spawn when the sun comes up. I think it helps to condition them well until the female is obviously full of eggs, then if there is nothing good on TV---
Billaney
I found if i turned off the lights in the early evening when it was dark , i could come back an houir or so later and collect a fresh batch of eggs from my panda cory's

Billaney
you made it sound so easy Paul, do you spawn them in a bare tank? Hi, Yes bare bottom tanks with plants ( java moss and java fern ) weighted down with either stones rubber banded to the sreams/roots for easy cleaning.
