Smallreefer
Hi, i feed flake in the mornings and granules at night and every few days i feed frozen mysis and sometimes marine tucker- (frozen mixture of seafood from bio supliers). Should really feed some nori or something similar for my tang but i hope the spurilina flakes will be ok. Dan
chimera
Daily i usually feed a combo of Tetra marine flakes or Tetra spirulina flakes, JBL MariPerls and Redsea MarineGro granules. Twice weekly I feed the tank some phytoplankton and/or cyclopeeze by putting it in a syringe, half filling with water and shaking it up then injecting it in. Once a week I'll peg in half a sheet of Nori or stir up some frozen brine shrimp and frozen mysis shrimp in some water and chuck it all in
chimera
Actually, I haven't fed frozen brine or mysis for a couple of months, kind of forgot about it. When dumping it in tonight the corals reacted quite well, polyps fully extended. Twice a week I'll also get a stream and blast the crap off the rocks - the corals also react exceptionally well to this and I don't know if it's just my imagination but they appear to "suddenly" colour up more. I assume that is just because of the light bouncing off the particles in the water onto the corals that does this? Or can corals bring out colouration that quickly? ghostface
i get quite bad nutrient spikes when i feed frozen food, even if i defrost&rinse it first. seems strange as pretty much all of it seems to get eaten......
chimera
seems strange as pretty much all of it seems to get eaten...... it's the leaching of water from the frozen food into the water you defrost it in as opposed to the food itself. try running the food through a seive and chuck the water... or get a mutha skimmer
JoeBlog
... or get a mutha skimmer Exactly, increase nutrient export relative to import.
Bubbles
1 x cube of frozen food each day. I alternate between mysis, green tucker and marine tucker. Leave it to defrost for about 15 minutes then chuck it in a fish net for a good rinse under the tap. Fish start flipping out when they see the blue net approaching the tank
puttputt
Its funny cause when I feed flakes or pallets I swirl them with a bit of tank water in an old flake tin to ensure they dont float and my fish often fight to get in the tin before I can swish a bit of water in. More than once have ended up with a chromis or damsel in the tin. My big boy larmarck angel swims around with his big shoulders and eyes out of the water when he sees the tin coming. wasp
I'm pretty cautious about what I feed, but once a week I do put in some of that messy frozen mysis, but without washing it. The fine stuff seems to do wonders for the corals, sps, lps, and zoas all put all their collection equipment out to get it. I'd love to feed it every day but when I tried that I did end up with an algae bloom. Maybe if I'd carried on the filtration system would have adapted as others have said, although I was not game to try this. Another couple of times a week I feed a better grade of mysis that does not have much "mush" in the water with it, and sometimes I'll feed some mussell, which the fish love. Rest of the time it's flake.
