wasp
Chimera I'm hoping you can lend your meter to Jetski so we can do some further tests, both on his, mine, and perhaps, Nicks. Hopefully this could add some more useful info to the discussion. Btw I'm not interested in the political side to this thread, I've already got enough of that type of thing with that feisty little scotsman on the other thread who keeps hoping he might be able to knock me over!
Warren
Hello Children, You'll notice a couple of threads have been sanitised, this one specifically. Some of you are verging on yet another warning and/or another one month ban. The personal attacks and petty insults will stop now and stay stopped. Your stupid childish attempts to irritate each other are pathetic. Next one who does it look out...

wasp
Thanks . What I'm thinking is I want to give the various bulbs fair trial over a period of time, and if the 400 watter does not stack up sufficiently I may move to 250 watters only, and save a bit of power. Been interesting to read the thread, plus observe the actual testing, it is not quite a black & white science, plus it can also be simply what looks good on your tank, combined with effect over time on coral growth and colour, so there's a heap of variables, and some of them will only be known after some time. chimera
if too much light does stunt growth, then so be it because the colour gains are huge. pics are when going from 3 x 150W halides + 2 actinic T5's to 3 x 400W halides + 2 actinics - making an exceptional difference (exactly the same camera and camera settings) a pic of my monti digitata taken just prior to the halides being upgraded. (note that the monti is now smaller on the left side coz i broke a heap of branchs off when i pulled out the left rock in order to remove a BTA  ) oh well, nevermind, change in 2 months... 3rd JULY 2006 10th SEPT 2006
chimera
and this photo, cant find any before shots but it was only yellow, now its getting purple tips. this closeup/cropped shot is with T5's on only, will get a better shot later (i cropped it to just show the yellow, purple on blue background coz it looks cool ) its quite an insane yellow with the halides on. chimera
I raised my lights up about 3 inches tonight. I did this after recommendation from zeovitnz. He offered quite a bit of other helpful advice too. Good dude! Aesthetically, I think the tank is one hell of alot nicer to look at now as it was insanely bright before. Moved an acro down a little too as I think it may have been getting too much light. Will see how things take shape now
