  1. My daughters tank had heaps of green hair alge covering everything, so I put my flying fox in there, 2 days later all gone.
  2. My son has had 2 for about 5 yrs now, very easy to look after, we dont feed raw meat too messy, Axolotl pellets 2-3 time a week. In winter once a week. They also eat worms, slugs and small fish, we get cockabillies from the lake. One had his leg biten off but grew back, another had to go to the vet because it had a big stone stuck in its mouth ($32.50 later) Very easy to keep. My son cleans the tank once a month.
  3. I had the same happen to a catfish about 3 weeks ago, he is fine, no infection, I think one of the other fish must have eaten it as it hasn't happened to any other eyes in the tank. But here is one of the answers I got: (beginners) Sometimes fish can get a tumor like growth behind the eye(like a cyst) and they can swell untill they burst, popping the eye out and releasing the cyst bugs(spores?) into the water and possibly affecting other fish. May pay to keep an eye on the other fish Good Luck
  4. He is a little peppered cat, with one eye
  5. hi caryl, I think it has been eaten as there is still some long bits left
  6. it happened the same night the cat lost his eye, so there must have been some big fight going on...
  7. What would have eaten my fighters tail, he only lives with 5 noens and 1 one eyed catfish???? It happened during the night and he sleeps on the bottom of the tank in a bell so could have been the cat maybe......
  8. just did the vinegar test and no fizzing at all. The stones/pebbles look like river stones. I think they should be ok
  9. Thanks for that. I have some soaking in a bucket of water and the ph test is ok. Is there any other test I could do?? These are plain dark grey pebbles no white bits in them, not sure if they naturally come from the beach or have been put there?
  10. I couldn't get in either, I even joined and logged in but no go..
  11. Would it be ok to use the stones/pebbles from Napier beach for the bottom of my tank that I will be filling next week? I have taken out all the bits of shell, and will now need to wash them, do I need to boil them?? I got 4 buckets of pebbles, 1 bucket of some fairly small ones..
  12. we have a tank with 5 neons 1 fighter and a one eyed (got eaten) catfish, a few nights ago the fighter got some of his tail eaten. May be the neons???
  13. Yes there is a bell/cave but the fighter sleeps in there. Maybe we should put something else in for the cat. The eye socket looks clean.
  14. My daughter has a small 26 ltr tank with a siamese fighter, 5 neons, and one peppered catfish that now has only one eye. Complete empty eye socket left, anyone have any idea what may have happened to it???? This has happended over night, did the fish have a fight  ??? He is still happy and swimming aroung looking for food as before. Will I have to keep an eye on him for infection?
