  1. the best thing you can do if your able to have a sump is buy a decent skimmer rather than the external canisters.

get a couple of decent t5's as you'll need them at a minimum if you want to keep corals, and a pump or two for flow.

start off with the easy soft corals and do lots of research before making any impulse purchases

research, research research, then ask lots of questions

  2. whats up with your wave maker? its half in and half out!

one day i came home and found it had worn its way through the glass :slfg:

its called a Ecotech vortech they have the motors on the outside of the tank

  3. Did the rock get the hair algae on it since you put it in the tank? If so it should go away in time as it could be doing a mini cycle from being moved around,

Get rid of the apastasia anemone in the second to last pic asap the longer you leave it the harder it will be to remove it before it spreads

  4. first one doesnt look like a ro unit just the carbon filters,

the second unit is a ro but not a rodi unit, as it has no DI cartridge

have a look at http://www.filters.co.nz they sell good RODI units, i think there are under the other section, then click on aquarium filters. I think the AP777 is the normal RODI unit sold

  5. not really, again its a very old outdated style skimmer like the aquaone or red sea stuff. You would be much better to look in the BM range or some other newer skimmer. Also you cant look at the skimmer as you do with a canister filter for fresh water that uses lph turnover etc, skimmers are normally based on volume of the tank and i would suggest you try to get some thing around 2x what your tank volume will be.

  6. hands down i would go with a bubble magus over a aqua one, to tell you the truth i wouldn't even consider one for a marine setup. like its been said before have a look at the BM range of skimmers, or the newer model Reef Octopus stuff any of these would much better than the aqua one range. last time i was in at HFF im sure they were using a deltec skimmer but its been awhile

  7. All fair points, it says that i qualify for free shipping because of the value of the order, but it doesnt say worldwide. But the warranty has me a bit worried, however 7 eheim pumps would have to die before i met the cost of my lfs for the same pump!

try second hand you can pick up a 1060 for around $80 and they last a life time!

  8. the eheim's are great pumps.. pricey, but they last a long time i have a 1060 model for my return pump and love it. as for skimmers there are lots available now so look around, their is more than likely a second hand dnw150 floating around.

  9. Sorry to thread creep CodKing

Ahh, I did wonder how you'd spread the light on yours. I notice the lamps are biased towards the island but overflow into the rest of the tank. I have a 70W halide sitting here that would be just the thing for a single island...

I have the halide directly over the island but also have 4x 4' t5's to help cover the rest of the tank
