  2. That is Caryl,

Yup my gouramis will be 1m to 2f ratio.

Was planning to have my tank with loads of rocks and some dwarf sags carpeting the ground + a few crypts.

I haven't had much luck growing plants that's why I was going to keep it lightly planted. The rocks should provide ample amount of hiding spots for my fish hopefully.

I want to add more rummy nose too... but was worried I might be overstocked.

My main worry is adding the blue rams... I read everywhere they are very fragile fish so I'll be adding mine with care for sure.

My tank was originally a discus tank, but I sold them and kept the filter running for about 3 months (occasionally feeding some fish food to keep the tank cycled)

Only recently added 15 rummy nose and 6 cories.

Think there was a mini cycle, but everything seems fine now. Tested my water parameters yesterday and I'll say I'm ready for more rummies and my gouramis.

Was thinking adding the rams in about 2months time.

    Thanks

  3. Hi all,

Just wanted your opinion on my stocking idea for me 200L tank (120cm x 40cm x 40cm)

    3 x Pearl Gourami's

    6 x Julii Cory

    3 x Bolivian Rams

    4 x Ottos

    20 x Rummy Nose Tetras

    2 x Blue Rams

I have 2 canister filters running right now (Eheim professional & Fluval 406)

The tank will be lightly planted and i do 2x 25% water changes weekly.

    Is my tank

    Over Stocked?

    Under Stocked?

    Just Right?

    Thanks

  4. Hi All,

I am thinking of getting some Honeycomb rocks to decorate my tank.

    Has anyone used these before?

What effect does it have on the water? e.g. does it increase or decrease ph significantly?

    Is it safe to use?

Also is Honeycomb rocks the same as Ohko Stone / Dragonstone?

    Thanks

  5. Hi all,

I have 5 beautiful healthy discus for sale.

I want to sell them altogether.

There is 1 unconfirmed breeding pair (have laid eggs, but i have not been able to get the eggs to hatch)

They are about 15months old, so still young.

They are about 10-12cm in size.

I am feeding them Tetra Colourbits, Tetra Freeze Dried Bloodworms, Beefheart Mix

When I was raising them from when they were 2months old, I have been doing 90% water changes daily to help with their growth. Once they reached 12months old I started doing water changes every 3 days instead.

Pickup is in Auckland - Onehunga Area.

I am looking for $420 for all 5.

    Thanks.

  6. Hey all,

I'm currently cycling my tank, when it's done in December I'm looking for some juve discus. About 10 so I can raise them.

I'm hoping they will be about 3-6 months old.

Please let me know if you have any available.

    Thanks

  7. Hi,

I'm shutting down my tank so i'm selling all my plants.

    I have got:

Rotala Rotundifolia - about 50+ Stems $40 (the tall plants at the back of my tank)

Dwarf Sags - about 25 of them $40

Crypt Undulata - about 8 of them $30

Also have driftwood with an anubias nana plant growing on it $40

Their all growing really healthy, the anubias nana is getting a bit burnt cause my lighting is a bit too much for it, but it's growing loads of new leaves all the time.

  9. Hey,

I've had 3 Blue Rams for about 2 months now. Suddenly 1 of them is becoming aggressive. Guarding a certain spot.

I was thinking that he maybe protecting eggs or something but I don't see any eggs and he's guarding the spot by himself. Not in a pair (which I would expect if they were spawning).

My tanks a 55 gallon (200L) with drift wood and plants. I got some discus and rummy nose with the blue rams.

The blue ram only stared to get aggressive today. Before that they would only fight with each other. Now they attack my discus and rummy nose if they go near his spot.

    Any ideas?

I haven't added any new fish or change anything since I got my blue rams.

  10. Ok an update,

Looks like the small discus has white poo (not clear but white).

The colour of the discus is pretty dark.

What kind of treatment should I use? And should i transfer him to a quarantine tank before starting treatment? (or will the whole tank require treatment?)

The other 4 discus are still eating happily.

  11. Hi Guys,

I've just purchased 5 new Blue Diamond Discus.

3 of them 5days ago (Sunday), 2 of them 3days ago (Tuesday).

    1 of them about 8cm

    3 of them about 6cm

    1 of them about 4cm

Now the larger 4 discus are coming out and eating.

However the smallest discus (bought on Sunday) always hides, and isn't eating.

I feed them frozen bloodworms and tetra bits (that's what the previous owner says they feed it) - I will attempt to make my own beefheart mix next week.

Should I be worried? he sometimes seems interested when I feed them, but will then decide to turn around and hide again.

I've seen the bigger 4 discus poo, and they are not white, but it's been hard to see the smaller discus poo since he/she always hides.

My water parameters are as follow:

    Temperature: 29C

pH 7.0 (I have used peat moss to lower this, it use to be about 7.4)

    Nitrite 0

    Ammonia 0

    Nitrate 5-10

I do about 15-20% water changes about 4x a week

    My tank is a 4ft, 55gallon

    Current fishes:

    5 Discus

    3 otos

    5 rummy nose tetras

    3 german blue rams

My tank is planted with driftwood, with LED lights / 1T8

    1x Eheim Professional 2222 filter

1x Aqua One Aquis 700 filter

1x Blue Planet 24w UV filter

I'll try and provide photos tonight.

I've heard that it is normal for new discus to not eat in the first week or so, but since the other 4 discus are coming out and eating, I just assume that the smaller one will follow?

But I mean, the other 4 discus only started eating yesterday, before that only 1 of them ate.

  12. Please help someone.

I understand that the earlier I can treat him/her the higher the chance it has of survival.

So I would really appreciate if someone would give me some advice really soon.

I have a 3gal hospital tank that I can transfer him/her to (although I only bought it not long ago, will he/she survive another move to another tank? as I understand they are pretty sensitive to water conditions etc)?

I also have some wunder tonic and tonic salt if those are the right treatment for it.

  13. Hi guys,

I bought a few German Blue Rams about 4 days ago.

1 of them seem to have his tail clamped and I've never seen it open. At the LFS it was fine (unless the staff caught the wrong one).

It's still eating but it hides slightly more than the other blue rams (although it does come out quite a bit as well).

The other blue rams seem to be perfectly fine.

    I have a 200L tank (4ft Long)

    Current Tank Mates:

    3x Otocinclus

    3x Clown Loach (about 5cm)

    6x Rummy Nose Tetra

    5x Dwarf Neon Rainbows

4x German Blue Rams (including this one)

    Tank Specs:

    1x Eheim 2222 Professional Filter

1x Aqua One Aquis 700 Filter

    1x Blue Planet UV Filter

1x 3ft Aqua One PlanGlo LED light

    1x 4ft T8 Light

The tank is planted with 2 big pieces of spider wood (so plenty of hiding places for them)

    Water Quality:

    Temperature 28c

    pH 7.3

    Ammonia 0

    Nitrite 0

    Nitrate 5

I dose with Flourish Excel daily and Flourish Weekly

I do 20% water changes every 2nd day or 3rd day if busy (with seachem prime added)

I've attached a photo of the fish, can anyone tell me what's wrong?
