Rosy Barbs are not aggressive. If you have more than 3 Tiger Barbs in a school they also are not aggressive to other fish, normally, as they spend ALL their time chasing each other. Golden Barbs, (in general,) are not aggressive either but I have stopped breeding them as I had noticed some aggression in the offspring of those parents in a couple of spawnings; although the parents were housed in tanks which contained Angel Fish. That also goes against what the books say. DONT PUT BARBS with "THREAD FINNED FISH". I think your problem mainly lies in the size of the tank/s they are in, and the sizes of the fish.

Hi Al;l. I'm pleased to see that there are those out there that hatch "TOO MUCH". I hatch 15grams per day, every day and still I only have enough to feed out, leave alone Freeze any. I could hatch more if I really wanted to freeze some, or I could grow them on to breeding size which I have experimented with in the past, and it is an interesting past time. Good Luck.

Hi All Beckyboo, it isn't especially the importing that is the problem once you get the "CERTIFICATE to IMPORT". If a supplier has the stock and you pay for it and the freight; "It will Arrive in New Zealand". It is when the box /es are taken from the Aircraft that it starts to get expensive and "Problematical". Like I said you pays your money, you takes your chances.

Hi All I was a regular Importer from 1972 until the rules changed and you had to have an "Approved Quarantine Facility" and be Licensed to import. I am no longer bothered with the Beaureacratic BS and the exhorbitent costs that MAF charge for what is in fact an already subsidised section of the "Ministry", paid for with money taken off the TAXPAYERS. I did do am importation in 2005 from my supplier in Peru whom I had previously imported from. If I had known better I would have brought in several thousand dollars worth of fish instead of just a $100 worth. The costs charged by MAF were $700.00, plus the freight of $100, plus using a Quarantine facility for the Quarantine period and on shipping to me $300. You pays your money and takes your chances. And believe me if you want to import then you will be paying. I will post the link to one of my suppliers and it will give you an idea of species and prices. Good Luck

Hi All This is a copy of a post I did some time back, 5th May 2008. What is the white slime around my heater ?There is a photo attached to that post. Hi All Even though I have a very well insulated fish room I still have a small heater in every tank with the exception of WCMM, Killies and Leopards. They are ALL Aqua One and I have never had one fail yet. Ive dropped one and it broke the tube, but I replaced that and it still goes very well. The only problem I have with the Aqua One is when they are new. The Silicon Rubber they use to make them is a "Bacteria Food" and they grow a slime over them which I found suffocated the fry by covering their gills and killed them. I dont use new Aqua Ones near Fry any longer but place the new heater in an established tank to age the Rubber. The slime is extremely apparent on the suction cups and the top of the heater.

Hi All I have had it happen to me as well. It appears on the end cap of the heater and on the suction cups.. AND, it has only ever happened with "AQ** ON*" heaters. From my experiences as a "Master Scuba Diver" it is a well known fact that silicone rubbers and rubbers which incorporate silicon are prone to growing this type of slime on them. It is a caused by a chemical reaction to fresh water, but it does go away after several washes. The problem with it forming on heaters is that the slime quickly invades the tank and coats the fishes gills thereby suffocating them. "WASH & RINSE ALL HEATERS BEFORE PUTTING THEM INTO A TANK".

Hi All I saved myself the $22.00 on T/M by NOT BUYING a Breeding Cone, and instead got a few secondhand roof slates off a tiler for $5.00. They cut easily with a masonary disc on a grinder. Asthetically they look good and the colour is natural. The biggest plus is my angels always (touch wood) spawn on them which makes the slates easy to handle for artificial hatching.

Hi All. it appears that this thread is long enough, and filled with bad experiences of Aqua One tanks that a thread could be started just to list faults that occur with these tanks. I am "PERSONALLY" of the opinion that the tanks with bent/rounded corners are an accident waiting to happen. In my experience over the last three years I have loaned out a 24 x 12 x 12 tank on four occassions (and that's in Nelson) while the broken one was replaced. I repaired those that I could. And it was not all "620's" that broke. What does everybody think of the Federation making representations to Kong's (whose name and guarantee is on the tanks), because I feel that it is not doing the hobby any good at all. And I can see people giving up the hobby due to unexpected flooding of the lounge carpet, and the loss of a lot of fish.

Hi All, Thanks for the support. I had intended to go over for my mates 60th birthday on the 12th, and then go to see my niece in Banora on the Gold Coast for a couple of days. This invitation has come as a bolt out of the blue and I have had to change my itinery slightly, as it is too good an opportunity to forgo meeting some of the "Native Fish" enthusiasts from both Brisbane and New Guinea whom only meet once a year at this venue. The Royal show is an added extra, but you better believe that I'll make time to do the Hobby justice. Rest assured I'll have plenty of memory card capacity on the camera. :lol:
