  1. Hey guys, News since last post I now have my Coralbox M1-30 wow what an amazing light unit! beautiful color and definitely tonnes of power I dont even need to go past 50% on its changes between times which is also a beautiful feature for me being a shift working and not home to play with buttons manually all the time. Got Morcs bubblemag QQ skimmer and his WP-10 wave maker, which I put in the tank shortly after these guys arrived! two young Ocellaris Clownfish arrived via overnight shipping from auckland today the clowns are happily swimming around glad to be out of a bag that they were in for 25 hours, was so relieved to open the box and see them both swimming around! Im also going to Christchurch next weekend to pickup a new car I bought so will be able to buy some goodies from a pet shop which will be an exciting first in the marine world for me! Obviously corals will be on the agenda what kind of cleanup crew would you guys recommend on this setup?
  2. Nice tank, is that souly a marine tank? cant say I have seen one like that before, or are those clear pipes going to a sump under the stand etc? if so thats quite cool You going to go Natural SW or Artificial salt water? guess that would be the first thing you should crack into to get that rock living
  3. Judging by your new frag tank concept you must have an extremely understanding mrs haha corals look great
  4. yeah man everything is looking excellent, cannot wait for my light unit to show up also!
  5. Ah yes thats right, maybe time to get a bit of clear Acrylic for a few bucks to cover that gap
  6. Aw gutted that sucks! where are they getting out? You do have a lid on right?
  7. Ahh right I see, but my baseline has no ammonia or nitrite in it as is
  8. Yeah Haha whoops!! didnt think it would happen that fast Im normally pretty unlucky *sigh
  9. Na I didnt in the end as I got that bit of live rock, Yeah i was thinking the same thing it has been 3 weeks now perhaps I should have done more testing in the initial week or so I know that having live rock can enable it to cycle very quickly on occasions. The presence of Diatoms is the ending of the cycle is it not? as diatoms appear once the bacteria is present and then disappear once the bacteria feeding it has been used up? Correct me if im wrong im not 100% sure Do you reckon I should go get a bit of shrimp from supermarket anyway? or give it another week and see what happens? Ideally you want no nitrite and no ammonia only a little bit of Nitrate which is what I have, perhaps Its cycled faster then I was expecting. Will wait it out anyhow and get coral frags and make sure they adapt well before I introduce any form of live stock
  10. So Just did another test on the water 25degrees .025 salinity PH 8.0 Amonia 0 (looked more like .25 last time but definitely zero this test 10 days down the track) No2 0 ppm No3 5.0 ppm So yeah everything is exactly the same really, have started getting yellow colored rock however in the past 4 days
  11. Thats great that it is doing some good to the tank regardless of the small capacity tank, will definitely end up getting one
  12. Ah well wont stop me at end of the day. Cant be too bad I sleep right beside an air pump and the hum of the filter for my Freshwater haha
  13. hah you should! always good to see inspiration! ah yes the guy I got my live rock from had a real big hair algae problem from where his tank was sitting in sunlight. Its been just over a week since my last water parameters test so will do another tonight. The rock is slowly getting these purple specs on it along with the color turning from white to a yellowish light brown. Got a parcel today with my small mag-float. A lot better than those cheap as ones with the blue grips you can get. Person that won my auction for my old marine lights changed their mind so that didnt sell in the end which is a pain in the ass so trying to sell again with not much luck
  14. Hmmmmmm might just have to have a play around with that! Thanks for the link! Have you got a thread of your nano or still cycling?
  15. Too loud for a bedroom tank with 1 tenant who sleeps like a rock? :slfg:
  16. Had a look at the ato's but prob a bit bulky for where my tank is being in my own bedroom and all, plus since ive started the tank i have been monitoring the evaporation too see what its like, so far since its been filled its only dropped 12mm haha a couple cups of water and that will be back at normal level that I began with, my room is pretty warm so doesn't really get much condensation etc plus I definitely run the tank with the lid on it would be an idiot not to . . . And yeah Morcs the back compartment is huge now it will seat a skimmer in there quiet lovely I reckon haha will definitely invest in that now that I have plenty of room for it.
  17. hmmmm a reactor would be cool haha Might have to look into that one
  18. Coral Box M1-30 V2 is ordered and paid for cant wait till that shows up!! and the other lights I had have sold for $5 less than what i paid for them plus $10 success fee soi lost $15 bucks on rushing into light buying but oh well! in the end Eric at fish street refunded me $42 because of the free shipping he offered because of the unit not being shipped until the 13th or 16th but hey if I can save $42 by waiting a couple more weeks thats cool with me not like I need them yet anyhow haha Now just need to buy a Wp10 wave maker and some acrylic to make this media holder up and some sort of skimmer down the line. Any other gadgets I could get? I bought a refractometer off ebay which arrived but turns out that I ordered the wrong type and this one measures battery acid strength or something I didnt research enough before buying one so that sucks, I just thought a refractomoeter was a refractometer :sml1: I already have a good Instant Ocean brand hydrometer so dont really need a refractometer anyway.
  19. Yeah was mega small did he say 2 gallon??!! cant really put any fish in there will have to be a coral and snail tank haha Yes fair enough I had a lot of doubt about whether or not to start will all dead rock or not but decided I didnt have the patience in the end haha be interesting to see how it goes for you!
  20. ok Morcs after having a look properly there is only 3 compartments in the back, i managed to rip the stupid stock media cartridge holder out so now the first compartment is empty and measures 16.5cm wide is this enough for a skimmer? I wil be taking the foam/sponge out of the 2nd chamber once cycle finishes and replacing with an acrylic media holder, figured I will get the sponge to pickup the crap that is coming off the rock at the moment before I hiff it
  21. looking good man, cant wait till my rock is that color purple! hope it hurrys up patience is such a tricky thing. Cool about the skimmer being more effective now
  22. the dude in the video link you posted surely has made a very good DIY filtration system thanks for sharing!
  23. hello! with marine you want no chemicals if you can help it. So you need to use R/O water (reverse osmosis) which is typical spring water, I get mine in the big 10litre pure dew contains from supermarket for 6bucks, tap water has chemicals like liquefied chlorine, fluorosilicic acid, aluminum sulphate etc which is fine for us but bad for fish. even if you use the water conditioner formula it doesnt get rid of the chemicals it barely covers them up. Depending how big your tank is you might want to consider purchasing an Ro/Di water filter which turns tap to R/O Hope that helps!
