    New Fishes

Yeah they do get big but I understand they are relatively slow-growing and these guys are only about 2 inches long at the moment. It will give me a good excuse to tell my hubby I need a bigger tank! My current tank is 4 ft

    New Fishes

:bounce: Yippee! Got some new family members today. 3 silver sharks. Happily swimming around in quarantine. I think they should fit in quite well because all my fish are very...fast, active, boisterous - whatever you want to call it! :bounce:

    Green tank???!?

OMG! Your not gonna believe this. Was just getting the last bit of water out and found 8 baby lemon tetras floundering around. Rescued them. Very ironic that green water is good for babies! This day can't get any worse.

    Green tank???!?

thanks for that info. I don't feed blood worms. If this ever happens again I will know what to do. How long do others keep tank lights on for each day?

    Green tank???!?

Thanks Caryl. Valuable lesson well learnt - ask before panic. So what should I have done to fix it if I hadn't of emptied the tank?
  8. Hi all I've got a problem I hope someone can help with. About 10 days ago I noticed my tank was starting to go cloudy all of a sudden. I was going on holiday the next day so I did a water change quickly. Got home today and my tank was completely green - so green in fact that I couldn't see a single thing in it. My hubby was feeding the fish while I was away and he had told me it was getting worse and he knows not to over feed them. So at a loss for what else to do, I have since emptied the tank completely, got all the fish into another tank (they are all fine) and I'm going to start again. Couple of questions though 1. Why did it suddenly go green? Tank has been set up since July 2004 with no prior problems. 2. Are ug filters the best option or is there something better? When I cleaned the tank there was a lot of muck under the plates even though I do regular water changes 3. Should I get new gravel as if there was a bug of some sort that caused it, it may happen again if I use the same gravel. I know I will have to cycle the tank again before re-introducing the fish It is a 240 ltr tank so I don't want to have to empty it right out too often. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
  9. Hi Ira, I'm not very local being in Carterton but if you can't find anyone closer to home whose going I won't mind taking them up. We would have to meet somewhere like the summit. Let me know if I can help Donna

    Sad Day

Thanks Bill, Unfortunately the last mollie was dead when I got home tonight. I think he died of a broken heart after being left alone. But I have learnt a lot from this experience so at least thats something. Thanks Donna

    Sad Day

Well after talking to you guys in chat the other night I put my remaining two mollies in a salt solution. Then yesterday I got a new tank, put water out of my big tank in there and salt and put the two mollies in it. The female was not looking good and died overnight. Also two of the babies were dead so I've put the remaining ones in the salt tank also. The last male is looking good so far and so are the babies. I only wish I'd known about the salt before I killed these fish. Thanks for all the help I got and I think I will ask you lot before I buy anything in future :-?
  13. I'll try BG. Trouble is I'm not really sure who they belong to. Only got the fish on Monday. I'm guessing that the babies are mollies because they are mostly black and my female mollies are black. One of the females is just hanging around the top of the tank and not moving much. I wonder if its her???
  14. Thanks Caryl. I got a breeding trap and caught 11 fry. Saw a few more amongst the plants but can't catch them anyway so I'll leave them be for now and see what happens
  15. Thanks BG, I'm just gonna tear off to the lfs and get a breeding trap or a tank or anything, something, everything. Wasn't ready for this
