  1. Thanks for the further wisdom. Unfortunately one passed I. The night, s/he was the weakest out of the bag, one appears to be swimming about reasonable happily this morning and the other has righted him/herself and is swimming around slowly but surely. Will leave the lights off today and perhaps cover with a towel to minimize any further shocks/disruptions. Thereafter, all digits crossed for the remaining two. Thanks for your help :bggrn:
  2. Ahhhh I read it somewhere here. Shall I desist on those then? I've also read adding small amount of dissolved Epsom salt can help stressed fish, would that be a good or bad idea at this point? Or should I just leave them alone and cross my fingers they all right themselves without my interference/care? Thanks
  3. Thanks Ira, I've put an additional bubbler in, lights are off. Do you think ambient light would be bad, not ideal for me to sit in a dark room but I'll make the sacrifice,or should I out a blanket or something over the tank do you think? I ran out of stresscoat last week. Doh! I have done a thirty percent water change in hopes it might perk them up abit
  4. Hi all, I've had three new discus arrive today by courier from Auckland, I'd say the courier co didn't quite read the fragile and this way up labels. The seller had done their job well but regrettably two of the bags had burst and the fish had only a few centimeters of water in their bags, and the heat packs were saturated. Anyways, I'm having a panic attack as two of the three are laying on their sides at the bottom of the quarantine tank. All three were initially like it, but one has recovered, the other two are breathing, NAND will with a little help make it to the top of the tank where they are gasified air before taking a decidedly sideways dive back down. I've read in a few forums this is often a sign of the shipping stress, and they will usually recover? The tank they are in is at 28 degrees, it's a well established tank so cycle issues are fine. I've kept the lights off, curtains pulled and doors shut. Question is, is it correct that this is ormal after a 15+ shipping journey, and is there anything I can do to help them or aid them in a more speedy recovery? Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom. Michael
  5. Ahhhhh :gpo2: Now I understand, them be some funky fish. Haven't got any myself, may investigation an addition after some research. Not something I've seen many of inthe mstn pet store lol
  6. Sleepy is indeed a good choice of words,it's like being blonde, a lifestyle choice etc etc That lot will keep you busy though I'm mystified what all those L numbers are....
  7. Hey all, thank you for your kind greetings, and a little bit of history about the fish keepers around here. And welcome Geoff, how are you finding the rapa so far? A quick question, has any bought from exotic aquatics off trademe? I was meant to meet him today in town to pick up some fish, but I found I'd given him the wrong contact number (bad iPhone keyboard)... If anyone happens to have a contact number I'd appreciate it. Geoff, what's in your collection? Michael
  8. Hi, have had BR for a few years. Significantly better picture and sound, more so on larger LED, though LCD does well enough. Other benefit is less of the regional rubbish you get with DVD, my brs from all over the world seem fine, no hack codes needed. I'd say go crazy, get the BR, and a TV upgrade, and as a gift to yourself for your fine sense, get fishy things :happy1: Cheers
  9. Glad I finally signed up, slacker on my part. But, I'll put it down to getting busy (in an appropriate way that is) with my inherited 130L tank, which has evolved into an addiction that a counsellor would be proud of. Went from a couple of tetras, to a couple of discus (more on the way), angels, cardinals, neons, plattys, a betta (rip), silver sharks etc. clearly my spatial skills are rubbish, so ive just brought a 400L that's I'm slowly setting up, will be an ongoing work in progress as the budget permits, but I am guessing some of my current fishy friends will be doubly wet at the thought of a new, bigger and more spacious residence. Anyways, enough rambling, look forward to your words of wisdom, and sharing some fishy tales. (is it me or is that something terribly Freudian in this)? :fshi: I'll upload some photos when I figure out that bit. Cheers to ya Michael Ps. Does any else live around here with fish, it looks like there used to be a few plus a club of some sort, but appears its gone fins up?
