  1. Right, ill have to sink the cage into the ground with a mesh bottom to prevent escape. Good point about the safety door, how does that work? hmmm, so are raw red meats and various veggies (squash, dandelions, kale etc) the best option with live insects every once and a while?
  2. Hey all, I am currently selling on a few of my exotics and might possibly want to keep something new, for instance an Australian Water dragon I have a possible location and the enclosure could be up to 2mx1mx1.5m (lxwxh). I have a few questions though: How often on average would you feed an adult dragon? For live insects, could you release a ton (say 50 crickets) twice a month or so? What happens in winter, do they brumate or just get a lot slower like natives? Also are they decent burrowers? The enclosure would be quite far away from the house so filtration for the water area would be difficult, are there any good battery/solar powered pumps? I would love to see some enclosure pics, to get an idea. Cheers; Jack
  3. When I mean cloudy I mean not crystal clear. I created a land area using soil and blocked it off with rocks but of course some of the silt seeped through giving the tank a tinted look. This should be fine shouldn't it and wont affect the animals? Cheers; Jack
  4. Hi, I only give multivitamin powder every four feedings and calcium with d3 two out of four feedings.
  5. Unfortunately my parents aren't keen on having a leopard gecko family so I don't think I would be allowed to breed him myself. :dunno:
  6. Hey guys, Im reopening this thread because, like some of you suggested, I reduced his feedings down, feeding him less each meal and only feeding him twice a week (whereas before it was 2-3 times a week). However he has gained weight and is now 116 grams? He is going to the toilet fine. Can anyone help me understand this? I was feeding him crickets for a long time but reverted back to mealworms because ran out. I reduced the number of mealworms compared to what he was previously getting before the crickets. Could the change from crickets to mealworms be the reason? Thanks; Jack
  7. I still reckon he'd be 100 grams even after losing some of his love handles. Do you think?
  8. Ok sweet, ill stick him on a diet and hard exercise...
  9. Sweet thanks, Im not very good with this kind of stuff...
  10. Sorry, the photos don't seem to be coming up.
  11. dont know how to upload but pics are on here: http://s1367.photobucket.com/user/peppe ... =3&page=1/
  12. My guy looks like the gecko on the right, no bigger. ill get pics tonight.
  13. Its alright, I understand where you are coming from. I don't think he's obese as far as I can tell Ill get some pics up here. His feeding has been the same for about a year now, food every three days either crickets or mealworms. Also I dont have to wiggle them in front of him. His mealworms go in a bowl (which he looks in every night) and I let crickets loose in his enclosure.
  14. My Leo Monty is now about 2 years and 3 months old now. Weighed and measured him the other day at 10 inch and 112 grams. I've seen on websites this is described size as being giant to super giant size? Is that so?
  15. Now not needed, instead picked up two ENORMOUS golden bell frogs, so I don't think they would be that compatible...
  16. Anyone in Auckland have them or know where I could get them?
  17. With regards to water, can you just use hose water left over 48 hours to dechlorinate?
  18. Thanks blueether, My friend is really wants to keep an eel (he would take the right precautions and make the pond escape proof). Got the dimensions off him today. Roughly the volume of the thing is about 1000l, its 60cm deep and has a diameter of 150cm. The only thing that is stoping him at the moment is his filter and pump are broke so they need to be fixed or replaced first. With regards to decor, do you guys recommend caves made out of rock and driftwood. I know an eel would need something to make itself feel secure. Also he was wondering what pond plants would work well with the natives? Thanks
  19. Here it goes ... My friend has wanted an aquarium for ages but just didn't want to deal with all the setup costs. He has an unused pond at his house. I suggested he setup a native pond as a cost friendly solution. So pretty much me and him are gonna spend the next couple weeks on this little project. Its a Decent sized pond (will get dimensions off him soon) that is shaded (I here thats important for temperatures). A few Questions I have are as follows: Are there any special care requirements compared to other fish (feeding etc)? Where in Auckland is a good and legal place to catch said fish? What species of natives do you guy's recommend? Thanks
