    Daphnia?

Actually, I found that they are seed shrimps..

    Daphnia?

I went to the cornwall park tonight and fished for some Daphina...I scooped around to see if I got some. I thought I had some until I got home. Looking under a magnifying glass, they weren't Daphnia, but some other things. They look like mussels, waterfleas inside greenish (just tints of green) shells, with flagellates coming out. They swim around quite vigorously. Attached is my crudely drawn picture (forgive me!) I don't know what to search because I don't know what they are. They are relatively fat.

    Daphnia?

I have a huge pot (lotus plant) outside that never seems to dry out. It's a home of many mozzie larvae, and other invertebrates (some oval greenish looking flagellates, tiny worms etc), but I was never able to spot any Daphnia. I am too afraid to feed my fish anything from that pot in case they are contaminated.... Is there anyone who might be able to give me a small population of Daphina? I thought I might use the green water I have as food source I also have plenty of yeast and spirulina flakes and stuff that I could make food with. My brine shrimps seem to love the mixture.
  4. I am not too sure. It came with the tank I bought, supposedly quite good although the brand itself is unknown to me (a chinese brand). I will need to see a manual for it to find out how I can take out the UV bulb. I will be filtering the new tank with a large external UV canister as well as the current one you see in the picture (AquaOne). The seller of the tank used the former filter for it but I thought I will use both. The rocks are all back in now, so there are plenty of covers for the fish.
  5. I'm feeding them mostly with JBL Novo Rift sticks. Clown loaches were with a tiger bard tank I was given by a friend of mine as he couldn't take care of them. I've just put them in the tank as many people told me although they aren't suited for Africans, they can live with them (I might be wrong). I had to sell the tiger bard tank, but the buyer wouldn't take the loaches. Dad likes them though. I also took the rocks out but they are all back in now. I reduced the frequency and amount of feeding but the water is turning greener every day so I'm leaning towards to sunlight.. Damn. I don't really like hybrids. He came with the tank when I bought it few years ago. He was just a baby so I thought he was a zebra. The rocks are all back in now. My lighting is usually off because the lounge is always bright till 4pm or so. I feed perhaps twice a day, very small amounts each time. I reduced it to once a day or two, but the water has been turning greener each day. I am going to grab some black sheet to cover the tank see if it helps. pH level is around 8 or 8.5.

    Daphnia?

I'm in Auckland (north shore), and I decided I wanted to start my own live fish food culture. I know I can get microworms and mealworms easy off trademe. I have a sachet full of brine shrimp eggs. The problem is, I don't really know where I can get Daphnia, and other types of worms. I've visited many places to get some but to no avail.. Could anyone help me with this? Thank you
  7. Yeah haha. as Zuri said, I haven't put the rocks back iin yet although I know it was 2 days ago.. This tank gets quite bit of sunlight as it is quite close to a lounge window. The new tank will be put away from the window, but until then, I have to deal with green water....
  8. It's about 20cm long.. It is quite big.. I might cover the tank with black sheet to see if I can block off some light during the day. I do have a second hand external canister that has UV function , but I'm not sure if it's UV steriliser.. I was thinking of using it when I get the 500L finally set up. I haven't measured nitrate level yet, but when i did, they were all average.
  9. There's a window about 3m directly away facing the fish tank. We have a 'blinder' but the light comes through it anyway... I do a weekly 20% water change. Lighting is a standard t8 bulb, it's off most of the time. I have a 500L tank in the garage being prepared as I'm building a 3D Rockwall to install, so I don't want to move this tank any time soon.. Any suggestions how to keep the change to minimal?
  10. Hi, I've always had this fish, now it's grown quite big now. I am quite a newbie when it comes to knowing what species they are.. Here's a picture. It has blue body with yellow/orange tints in dorsal and caudal fins and on the body. Also... I've been having this issue for years now. I just don't know how to deal with this issue.. Water rapidly turns green to the point where my regular water change can't keep up with it. I usually end up having to drain the entire tank and start up the new aquarium each time.. My tank is African Cichlid tank, 150L, with Aqua One external canister filter. All water chemistry is always kept in check. I feed my fish mainly with JBL Novo Rift sticks. For those who might say the tank is too small, I have a 500L tank being prepared (I'm buliding a 3D Background!) The picture below is taken two days after a complete water change and you can already see the water turning green. I don't overfeed my fish or anything so I don't know what is turning green. It seems to me that wheenver I feed my fish with JBL Rift, the water turns greener the next several hours or overnight but from my research, people have no issues with this food. If you can please advice me what the problem is, and how to mitigate this issue, it would be much appreciated. Nothing looks worse than a sickly green fish tank...

    eye biters?

I had a couple (two females) with my mbuna tank. They were huge compared to my other fish, but one of my dominant ice blues (half the size) kept on harassing them forcing them to the corner of the tank. If there are many fish to spread aggression, I think they are fine.
