  1. well, at the very least I want to be able to put the plants, gravel and filter media in water. It would appear I may have found a 200 litre drum, so will see how I go Thank you everyone.
  2. This move is somewhat unexpected. I believe I am going through a break up with my girlfriend of 2 years, and that is why I need to move this tank. I don't at this stage have any money to out towards moving, hence why I turn to the forums for help... thanks for the idea though.
  3. Hi guys, I am in urgent need of containers that will allow me to move my 500 litre planted tank tomorrow. I would like to save as much of the water as I can, at least 50% of it if possible. Does anyone have containers I can borrow? I would be eternally grateful for your help! Thanks all!
  4. Hmm, I will check them out ^^ I am kinda leaning towards getting boesemani Rainbows though... maybe 6 of them or so. They should do ok in this tank right?
  5. Will tetras that small be ok with the Angelfish? They already ate a huge amount of my neons >_
  6. Hi guys, So yesterday I decided to rip 60% of the plants out of my tank because they grew faster than I could be bothered trimming them (which is odd for a low tech tank, haha), and because I wanted to change the scenery in the tank a bit, focussing on large broad leaf plants. This is what it looked like after finishing the replanting last night (the tank is 500 litres btw): Anyway, as you can see from that photo, the tank looks rather... empty now. Here's what I have in there at the moment: 6 x red phantom Tetras 4 x Angel Fish 2 x yellow Gourami 1 x Pearl Gourami 1 x Opaline Gourami 4 x Bristlenose Pleco's 1 x Siamese Algae Eater I had some neon tetra's, but the Angel's thought they were a nice snack so I got rid of them. All the other fish in the tank get along very well, and I have even had the red phantoms breed in there before. The angels sometimes have a go at each other, but they never attack or chase anything else. So, what I want to do now is add more fish to the tank and make it look more alive and fill the empty space. So far I know for sure that I want to add another Pearl Gourami, another Opaline Gourami and some more Red Phantoms, but what I really want to do is add some more variety as well. So, question time: Can anyone recommend some fish that could do well in my tank? Specifically I am after fish that aren't yellow or red-ish in colour, as I already have a lot of those. I would love something with some blue hue's. Thank you!
  7. I found my big piece of driftwood at Lake Pupuke on the Shore... It fills 2/3 of my 490 litre tank:
  8. I'll take a handful or two if you still have some left haha
  9. Yeah pretty stoked that it survived, especially with all the gourami's and other bigger fish around that would happily make a snack of it. Definitely considering setting up a breeding tank now. I have two males and five females at the moment
  10. Today I spotted a little Red Phantom Tetra swimming around the back of my tank! Not sure how old it is, but it's about 1cm long and is showing similar colours to a female. Here's a photo Now I'm wondering how to go about trying to breed some more. This happened in my 490 litre community planted tank. I have a net breeder I can set up, but I hear they don't like light when they're small. Still, pretty cool to have my first ever baby fish
  11. OMG I just discovered a baby Red Phantom Tetra in the tank! They must have laid eggs without me noticing and looks like one survived
  12. Man tha't s a beautiful setup. Hope I can get mine looking this good too!
  13. So update again: The Angels seem to have calmed down, the chasing and nipping has pretty much stopped. Also, I managed to lure one of my pleco's out of hiding long enough to finally get a photo of it: This is the bigger one of the three I have
  14. Java ferns would be a good idea I reckon... Maybe if I can find some big ones, I can replace the fake plants with them... now to find some though haha!
  15. Yeah I've noticed, so on Tuesday (payday) I'll go get some more.
  16. So, update time I took a short video a while ago, after doing the rescape (I forgot about it, and finally uploaded it to YooToob): http://youtu.be/kY78kTyp3eo First of all, I spotted the little snail again last night so I took a photo of it: I have also added a friend for my angel fish (but I might end up putting the new one in a different tank, looks like the first one is picking on the other): And here's the first angel displaying some really nice and dark colours: As for the plants, they are almost hitting the top again, so will start replanting some again soon. Hopefully I'll get enough so I can remove the fake plants in the right hand side:
  17. I will leave the little bugger in there, but still keep a close eye on the tank. The plants are growing really well again after the complete rescape I did, even the plants that got their leaves ripped off my my fish (I blame the Siamese Algea Eater - I've seen the little bastard nibbling on a plant). I will soon need to do a trim, as some of the plants are starting to reach the water level again.
  18. If you can, try and get some filter media from the established tank and put it in the new tank, that will be a huge help in speeding the process up.
  19. Oh I'm not saying I want to get rid of them, I just don't want their numbers to explode and become a problem. That's why I decided to leave this little one alone instead of taking it out
  20. Haha, yeah I hear they reproduce like crazy. Been doing some reading on population control, and I reckon if they do get a bit carried away, I kinda like clown loaches anyway, so could get a few
  21. Guess I'll keep an eye out haha, the snail I saw has moved and I can't see it now.
  22. Nice Definitely looking nice and clean! What fish have you got? I can spot a few rainbows...
  23. I'll see how the plants do without excel, it should be fine I'd think. I can see new leaves appearing all the time and they're getting taller by the day. I have no algae in the tank at all, it doesn't seem to grow very fast and my 3 baby bristlenoses are doing a damn fine job keeping the tank algae free. After replanting the tank, however, my plants are being eaten, most of the older leaves have been ripped off or has chunks missing. I think my siamese algae eater could be the culprit. I'm hoping that new leaves will replace the ones that were destroyed. I also noticed a tiny snail in the tank this morning, but I believe it hitched a ride in with new plants that I planted the other day. I can't see any other ones. I decided to leave it alone for now, but I'll keep a close eye on the tank to make sure snails don't become a problem.
