Some nice looking kids there Blue, Its a shame they dont keep the bold colouration later in life.
-
Setup the CO2 after delaying it for sooooo long only to oafishly break the stem on my CO2 diffusser, and cut myself in the process.
The mikyness in the water is pretty much gone but it does have a light green tint to it. I will do a water change or two over the next week or so and see what happens.
-
I got three from Brian at the goldfish bowl, they were the only three he had. Cost 13$ each
-
Thanks TM, the sub is from Hollywoods, its a coffe coloured grit.
-
I will actually be able to make this one. Good stuff.
-
The cloudyness in the water is getting to me a little, i am not sure whats causing it but I have heard that sometimes UV can cause it. Will run some tests and do a water change and see how it goes.
-
My water is a little cloudy, i think i can sense a green water issue trying to start but thanks to the UV it hasnt happened yet.
This is a pic as of tonight
Have added some foreground plants to the right hand front corner
Got some ottos
and some neon tetra's for the kids to look at
-
Your tanks looking great penguinleo. Good stuff.
-
Any chain stores that might have them?
-
Thanks David.
The light units not a Tek, Its an Aquamedic. 4x4' t5s
Im not too sure if the light is going to be enough to make an awesome carpet but only time will tell. The water is still a little cloudy (not too much though) so once that cleras up i'll start getting some real plants and i might get some fish later this week.
Does any one have a suggestion on what to use as a water holding solution for My RO water and where to get it??
-
Yeah alan i think your right about the tall hair grass. If i can't find the dwarf stuff but googling some pics it seems that E. tenellus can form a decent looking carpet.
-
dwarf hairgrass = Eleocharis parvula
normal = Eleocharis acicularis
nope, yet to find any and always on the look out. must be goin into the 3rd year since i been looking and i buy from anyone that thinks they got it but never is. they were differently around so still a chance its out there.
Parvula looks like a winner.
-
Tenellus is the grass type plant that propagates using runners right??? A while ago i tried what i think was a tenellus species and it didnt form a very thick growth.
-
The guy does list java fern as one of his plants so as you say alan it probably is. I'm pretty sure i've heard dwarf hairgrass mentioned is it common???
-
Nice tank, your brother gets my compliments. Ira, you are right, evil you are quasi right you would have been completley right if you didnt use sceptical in your argument.
I wouldnt mind knocking down some walls to make a tank with those dimensions (maybe a bit taller though)
-
OK, so i need to get serious about choosing the plants that i want in the final tank scape.
I'm going to have a lawn effect but can't decide if i want harigrass or the broader type grass looking plant (i'm pretty bad with plant names)
CHeck out this tank, it probably the most effective use of lawnage ever. Im guessing this is non dwarf hairgrass???
Also does anyone know the name of the long slender leaved plant that is by the wood? It looks almost crypt like
-
looks like a Geo to me.
-
Is that just standard dirt you dug out of the garden or is it specially for fish tanks? Did it not make the water go muddy?
Am wanting to set my tank up properly with plants so just getting ideas
Its a product called Daltons aquatic mix. To stop the water going dirty you need to cover it with something (i used a grit) and fill the water slowly
-
i was hoping that was the case but didn't want to be rude .
I just went to the fish shop and told him i wanted 30$ of plants. I still dont know exactly what look im going for but also because the tank is new i needed something in to stop the algae.
yea it looks great what fish are you thinking of getting?Im going to have a school of Cardinals and one or two larger fish (maybe discus maybe some nice apisto or rams. something awesome anyway.
-
Awesome work 8)
Thanks, keep in mind though that most of these plants are merely place holders while i decide on the final plant choice and aquascape.
-
Thanks fishboi
To tell the truth at the moment i cant remember if its the pic of what but I'm pretty sure it did loose a little redness when full but its darker than the photo shows.
-
See my last post for pics of the tank on the previous page.
Lastly here is a mod I had to do to get the filter intake/outtake.
diamond drill bit - 23$
hammer drill - 150$
having a nice tidy setup - priceless
-
Update with some pics finally
here is the tank on the base in the lounge on the stand with the heating cable under the tank probably not the most effective thing ever but better than nothing.
Got dirt?
and some more daltons
put on some reddish/brown grit
full of water with some plants floating
plants in soil front on view
end view
topdown sort of view
