im not sure, im hoping one of each as one has a long body and one is more rounded. i cant find much solid info on how to sex them except for different dorsal fin lengths, and even then they say that it is not a sure way to tell. i dont believe they get the pink bellies, would look cool if they did and you would be able to tell sex easier. im hoping when they get a bit bigger it will be easier to tell but i am hopeful since they dont fight and seem to hang out with each other 24/7 that it is one of each. :dunno:

I went to the lfs shop today and they had electric blue rams, only had two left so i brought them both they are awesome looking fish felt the need to share them :happy2:
  11. the male did chase her quite a bit.. i was going to separate them for a few days but looks like i left it too late  shes sitting at the bottom now resting against a rock breathing heavy still :tears:
  12. the other fish are blue rams so thats why i would think that the others would be showing similar signs. i will be getting a test kit soon so next time something like this happens i will be able to provide a full picture. thanks for the help anyway.
  13. yea i think it is time to invest in one was just avoiding that extra cost but i knew i would need to get one eventually. i asked at my lfs but they cant do one. :dunno:
  14. i researched a bit about gill flukes, the only symptom i can see is her gills do look a little inflamed. it says that it is really contagious though so wouldn't my other fish be showing similar signs? I dont have a testing kit apart from ph and kh droppers. i have never needed one before and they are quite expensive for a poor student :-? but i would also assume that since no other fish are showing signs of stress it is ok? Shes still stressed and swimming around the top of the tank breathing heavy, i was surprised she was still alive this morning, hopefully i can figure out what is wrong before she does.
  15. I can get a look at her in the morning, what should I be looking for? thanks for the advice
  16. shes not looking good, when i came home from tech she was at the surface gasping for air (i put and air stone in and changed the flow of the filter to help oxygenate the tank so that shouldnt be a problem). i decided to change her into a different tank just to make sure there is nothing wrong with the water in the other one, thought i may as well try that even if it stresses her a bit since she looked like she was dying anyway. now its just a wait and see game, i hope she pulls through these are my favourite fish &c:ry
  17. My female is breathing heavily and seems very stressed out and after reading some posts on here it seems like a lot of the time they die after these symptoms appear. any advice on what to do? i can move her into a smaller tank which currently only has 10 neon's so that the male cant harass her? Thanks.
  18. I just got a trio of trifasciata and 2 small macmasteri off Danival that will hopefully be here on friday :happy1: they should be ok in my 200 lt together since they are by themselves in there (except for a few tetras) with plenty of hiding spaces.
  19. thanks for the positive feed back on the tank guys hopefully it wont be too long before i have a million little ram fry swimming around :happy2:
  20. Hi Joe, i think i am going to try and find a trio of trifasciata, i have been wanting them for a while and are my favourite apisto that i have seen. they sound a lot like my blue rams so hopefully they will get along well. thanks for the advice. Claire
  21. Hi there, this is a newly rescaped tank but has been used for around 8 months off and on (the breeding one pictured above), the 200lt ive had for about 6 months i think, brought it second hand, also been rescaped fairly recently. so they are not very old, i have never had a problem with these rams, the heater even managed to get left unplugged and didn't work for a night and they were fine, didn't even seem bothered and have coloured up into breeding colours after that happened (probably simulated the rainfall when they breed in nature) i think perhaps this pair was from the new imports as i have read that the new ones are a lot hardier than the previous imports? (i could be wrong about this). i have just been lucky to get this pair and to have had no problems with them. i have had the rams now for about 4-5 months i think. Claire.
  22. Here is a picture of my tank, if i did something similar in my 200lt do you think that would be good? trying to make it look as natural as i can. and a couple of my blue ram pair because they coloured up into breeding colours today and they look really good (photos dont do them justice) :happy1:
  23. awesome thanks for the replies, i would really like a pair of apistogramma trifasciata, a. agassizi and a couple of Golden balloon rams. the breeding tank i set up is perfect for them at the moment and i am planning on doing a similar set up just on a larger scale for the 200lt. i will post a photo of the breeding tank when i next have time and see what you all think anyway Claire
