that settles it. instead of waiting ages to get an eheim shipped from germany by my grandparents, i'll go to redwood aquatics and get one soon. or is there a better place to get one from in chch? its currently priced at $159.00

Hi all,
I am going to upgrade my filter because my current one is just not filtering out the little things floating around in the tank.
there are 3 filters available to me at this stage. the eheim 2075, the eheim 2080 or the aquaone cf1200.
the eheims are obviously more expensive but higher quality. the only thing about them is that there are many storys about them saying that they leak at the powercord after a while!!!
are there any flaws with the cf1200? are they as quiet as eheim?
any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated.
cheers

Yup its here,I acquired some the other month. Cool plant!
is that the hydrocotyle in this tank? www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php ... 7&start=45
where did you get it from?
btw if i can find some i will grow it together with hairgrass because that can look really cool!

the current piping is 12/16mm and the filter requires 16/22mm

Hi all,
i would very much like to upgrade my filter because my current one is just not filtering out the little things floating around in the tank.
my problem is that the filter hosing/piping that i have currently is in a quite permanent position and the upgrade filters all have bigger pipping requirements.
if i get an adapter, will it slow the flow rate and is it bad for the filter or is it fine?
cheers

great going! its going to look really nice and clean when your done with the hood.
IMO when you rescape it, make sure to make it one scape. So if you look onto it, the hardscape merges together and all the plants are where they should be. so in the foreground, midground and background.(just a suggestion)

is the plant Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides avaiulible in nz?

update:
all plants are growing well.
most of the crypts have melted off their lower leaves but still have a few leaves.
the glosso has grown really well, but is just not turning into its aquatic form nor is it carpeting . most of the lower leaves have started turning yellow so i am questioning whether it really is proper glosso or some different species. if it doesn't work i will give hairgrass another shot.
riccia is growing well
i upped the co2 after the refill

Remember that those new bulbs you purchased are probably made for industrial use, and although they should grow plants alright, specially-made aquarium bulbs will provide a more aesthetically pleasing lighting option. A Plant Pro is definately a good idea
Also with a lot of aquarium bulbs, kelvin rating is just a marketing gimmick that you should ignore. I've found that bulb colours are generally very different to the specified kelvin rating. For example, when I had my tank running, I had a Hagen AquaGlo bulb rated at 18,000K. In reality this would be quite blue, but the bulb was actually a nice crisp white colour with a pink tint that made the colours of my plants and fishes look great.
i have looked into power glos (the t5 equivalent) and i do like the pink tone which the plant pro also has.
just the new bulbs being took away the colour of the rocks.
i will be adding the leds soon (6000-6500k) and will post pics of the process.
i managed to get some fittings for them at redpath for $5 each so once i get the pvc pipe they fit into i will install them.
the 'glosso' has sent roots to the ground and might be pulling its self down to the substrate which will make it a carpet :happy2:
next time i refill i will definitely have a look around. the only reason i didn't was because i wanted to keep the co2 up; exchange the bottle as fast as possible because if there was a big drop the would be algae.
cheers

this tank is amazing!
and everything without ada. :slfg:
i admire how you have done a much better job with this tank than what many people do with full ada setups overseas

6500k
and the plant pro is apparently 5400k and the life glo is 6700k

im not completely satisfied with how green it is so im going to take one of them out and replace it with the plant pro bulb

went and refilled the co2 bottle today and i was surprised that it cost $40 to refill 3.5 kgs of co2.
i also replaced my light bulbs with these bulbs from lamp specialists Christchurch because it has now already been a year that my tank has been running.
$5.50 each.
this is the old ones compared with the new ones (both pics have exactly the same setting and are shot with the same white balance)

the plants are now in but i am not completely satisfied with the layout.
i will probably be tinkering with the layout in the next couple of days.

yes it was and is still in emersed state. there is 2 t5 bulbs with reflectors ~30 cm above it (the g24s will be going above the back)
btw li@m, for your g24s did you use the suggested wire connectors or did you pick something else like crimps?

i found some glosso in a local stream(or at least i think its glosso) and have planted it hoping it carpets.
my plants will be going into the tank tomorrow
wild glosso(i think)
