I ended up re-homing some goldfish into the pond, They were in a small tank so I decided to give them a big home. I still hope to set up a pond with mountain minnows but this will have to wait for a wee while. I also hope to get a bigger pond before getting them.

Is anyone looking for a large tank in wellington? I was looking around on trademe and found this- http://www.trademe.co.nz/pets-animals/f ... 220862.htm I cant see anything wrong with it, maybe the fact it is double glazed but I think this is ok. And at that price it is a steal. (Please note- Thats not my auction, I just thought someone here maybe looking for a large tank)

I dont know about keeping them in a tropical tank? I thought they liked cooler water? I can keep him in my pond if you want? I am also in wellington.

Unfortunatly I'm only down there this weekend, The water Lillie's I found in Wellington were $40 each which seem quite expensive.

Does anyone know where a good place to get pond supplies is in CHCH, I am going down there this weekend and thought it would be good to get a few things for a pond I'm setting up. I am mainly looking for plants like water lillys etc I may pick up a few fish as well. Also while I am asking here I may as well ask if anyone know what you are allowed to take on a plane flying wgtn to chch? Would plants and fish even be allowed on the plane? Is it safe for the fish?

In the day the temperature would be fine, I just don't want to acclimatise them when the temp fluctuates so much day to day, even hour to hour.

When I went in there they only had them in warm water, I don't really want to mess around climatising them to a pond. I was hoping someone had some in a pond already so they were already used to the cold water.

Does anyone have any experience with keeping mountain minnows in an outdoor pond in Wellington? I have setup a pond outside with a bath tub I had lying around and was wanting to keep some small fish species instead of the usual goldfish.

Sorry if i have upset anyone with this thread, this wasn't meant to be the point. I was just trying to show the community something I found astonishing.(How many goldfish someone has in one tank)

Re-reading the auction is even worse, They have no filter in the tank either I see there is a bid so I hope the new owner doesn't keep the fish like that once they pick them up although I am tempted to bid on them my self to put in my pond i am setting up.

I have never seen so many goldfish in such a small tank as in this auction photo- No wonder all the fish are sitting on the bottom being non-active. (PS- The tank measures 300 by 300 by 350 high) I wouldn't even put one goldfish in a tank twice that size.

Great little setup you have there, may have to look into setting up a similar setup myself, where did you get the drum?

I guess it will be easiest to just go into a pet shop and read the back of the labels to find the best one, Thanks for your the help.

What does everyone here use as a dechlorinator/water Conditioner? I have been using Tetra Aquasafe plus, which I have found great but it is nearing the bottom of my bottle. I priced up the Aquasafe which is $37.95 for a 500ml bottle which is quite pricey so I am looking to see what others recommend at a decent price.

OK great. Do you know of any smaller fish that eat snails? Would the bristlenose? How many bristlenose could I safely have in a 300l tank?

I have just moved my fish into a larger 300L aquarium, The current fish being a few angel fish, a range of tetra's, a few peppered corydoras. I was wondering how many bristlenose catfish you would recommend? I understand they only from to about 15cm? Are they OK to keep with clown loachs? Because I plan on getting a few in a few weeks.

I have rocked the tank back and forth making waves and increasing the force and the tank still holds. I am confident it will hold especially as I have contacted a few glaziers who have said laminated glass is no weaker then normal float glass.
