  1. Yes i understand that but I will still get the benefits of the macro algae feeding on the excess nutrients from the aquarium water will I not Puttputt?? Also the added water volume and the benefits which go along with this? I think my setup would be better/more stable with this than with out it. Doesn't make a difference to me weather the pod population in the main tank rises or not, just figured that the seahorses would be happy in a nice quiet tank free from competition.

I guess I just called it the wrong thing.

  2. Hey zev,

Good point about the size of the BBS. I would be keeping the Kuda 'horsies if I was to get them, so they are going to be smaller than the NZ Potbellies. But even so would take a fair few to full the belly of an adult huh :o

How well do the hatch'n'feeders work? Seem to be a good idea!!

  3. Cheers guys...

Just a quick update. Added a few new corals and also added a couple of new bits of live rock from my nano tank, now that the hair algea is finally gone out of there. Amazing what taking out the fish can do!!

Heres a full tank shot (There is also a 20cm toadstool leather in there, but decided to hide itself down the back!! bloody typical!)...

  4. Hey all,

I am planning on adding a 3' fuge (will be around 90x45x45cm) into my system in the near future and was wondering whether it would be possible to keep a couple of Pipefish (if i can get them), or even a couple of seahorses in there. Do you think that they would be able to sustain themselves on the pod population? Of course I can supplement their feeding with frozens if they would take them.

The other idea I had was to get one of the BRINE SHRIMP HATCH'NFEEDER that they sell on trademe, and just have it running into the fuge all the time. If I was to do this does anyone have any ideas of how you could add some nutritional value to the Brine Shrimp before they get eaten?

Anyway any feedback/ideas would be great!!

    Cheers, Jake.

  5. lol, did you guys see this one! Angriest Pleco Eva!!

BTW, thats deffinatly not not an L066, the body/head/fin/every thing shape is all wrong. Looks to be a pesudacanthicus sp. of some description. The same family as the Leopard Cactus ones we get here. Would be an cool fish tho...carnivorous, aggressive pleco, that gets huge, like 45cm+, and looks awsome to boot.

  6. Ok, well not much to report really. Been pretty busy with work and stuff, so the tanks still running with half a sump, make shift lights, and not enought flow, but no one seems to complaining too much! Guess it helps that they are mostly softies in there. The coroline has really taken off, and is starting some pretty good spots on the glass.

Ithink im getting pretty good growth concidering, my monti has put a good 15mm all round on, the blue ridge has already attached itself to its rock, as have the star polys, and the zoo's have doubled in number. The only coral that isn't doing too well is my cataphillia. Not sure whats going on there, but it wont open up like it wat, and its generally not looking to healthy :? Have moved it, and it seems a lil happier. will see how it goes.

I moved the 3 fish from my 2' over (a bangii, a 6 line, and a baby Blue tang), and have added another Allens Damsel. They are all getting along so far.

Anyway, I have a few more pic's to share, somehow I forgot to take a full tank shot, but will try to get one up soon.

Will have another sump under this one, but Drifty and I managed to break the first one when we were emptying in.

Also added my first fish too, an Allen's Damsel...

He just went in this arvo, so he hasn't coloured up fully, but in the shop this guy was stunning!

I have some more pic's which I can put up if anyone is interested...

    Cheers, Jake.

  8. Hey all,

Just thought I would post a few pic's of my upgrade, and update it as it goes along. Anyway the tank has had live rock and water in it for just over a week now, and seems to be settling really well. I moved a few of my hardier corals over, over the last few days, and they are all doing great. Anyway here are a few new pic's...

  9. It would be VERY VERY VERY unlikly (did I mention VERY?) that it would be a golden Blue eyed Panaque. As far as I am awear 1)they have never been spawnd in an aquarium, so small ones are not avalible 2) there is not a golden form 3) the area that they come from in the wild is controlled by "gurrilla" so, at this time, no importing is done from there, 4) They sell for many hundred $USD for normal ones so for lil old NZ to get a batch of golden ones would be near on impossible.

When I was working at Jansens I ordered the so called "golden blue eye's" in and they were always just the common gba's. From memory they came from the supplier called Aquascope.

    Cheers, Jake.

  10. I have 5 of them in my 4 ft community. They certainly can hold their own! My largest male bosses my Juripari around when he wants to (not a bad effort since the Jurapari is 4x his size!).

Other than that tho they are fairly peacful, not bothering the discus or any of the tetra's.

    Cheers, Jake.

  11. Haha, yea I know bending a few rules with the Jurapari and discus. But the discus seem happy enough, they have spawned 3 times in the last 6 weeks.

Having said that though, I put 10 Black neons in about a week ago, the next morning I had 2 left

  12. Hi All,

I just purchaced 2 of these guys today, they measure around 11-13cmSL. Fingers crossed I have a male and a female, judging by the head shape, fin size, and spikes down the body I may well have. They are in very good condition, and have been in the shop for around a year to 18 months.

Fish 2 on top, Fish 1 at bottom...

    Fish 1 (male?):

    Fish 2 (female?):

Any one else out there have them? They are a beautiful fish!!

    Hope you guys like them...

    Cheers, Jake.
