Just to let people know, a number of pastors in chch got together about this and believe its totally incorrect so even from that point the churches don't believe it, if that helps peoples nerves.
If you can, I wouldn't worry about it, from people who know, the lady who started it is a bit weird. I notice her prediction talks about Christchurch and Kaiapoi etc being hit but it will apparently conveniently miss her house in Amberly. Go figure

Yeah, aggression could be a problem in that case, I tend to do it as they dig out the gravel and fill in all the caves so I have to change things around to stop them fighting over the last one - So in this case I find it reduces any aggression. But I do find them out exploring more when I do it too. Just my experience.

I've got a normal bristlenose with mine, a long tailed one may get nipped a bit much.
I change around the rocks in mine every now and again, makes the tank a bit more interesting for them.
Red zebra cichlids would work too, say, if you were to swap a few with some yellows as they're pretty similar in colour

Sounds really good - not sure how your greenery will last though, my yellows ate my swords, anubias and java fern quite happily

Same here, but it was a heavily planted tank and a four footer - its more that they can be stressed if they feel like they keep running into each other. Easier not to on smaller tanks if it can be avoided imo

Most bottom dwelling guys work, tetras, dwarf cichlids etc. Angels and fighters I'd do with caution, mainly as your tank isn't huge but I've seen it done

Fighters are fickle. I had one that decided he liked to eat neons, but others that haven't bothered with guppy fry etc etc so its a trial and error thing sometimes. Haven't kept celestials though sorry so cant say anything on that side of things

All sorts of stuff was added in the water after the quakes - the tap ph at my place moved around a bit and the chlorine levels are very variable, to the point that I've been double dosing the chlorine remover just in case. Something like that would be my pick (the spray bar would have helped get rid of any chlorine etc too)

If you can remove the fish, I'd either go the way of snail rid something that isn't supposed to be harmful to fish and do a flush after - copper pipe as a new home for the fish may also get rid of the snails as another thought

Yeah, skunk loaches are an aggressive fish - its generally easier to remove the other fish if they're delicate ones but they are effective snail crew and are quite cool in their own right :roey:

Yeah, aquaone heaters aren't that precise all the time, I've found my jager heater to be really good though.
One thing to watch with the cheaper filters is sometimes the wattage is quite high on them - I have an external that uses about 15 watts, compared to an equivalent aquaone which is 22w, as well as it being quite a bit quieter than the cheaper brand ones (I am biased though). Just somethings to think about though

If you wanted to go slightly odd ball, you could turn it into a puffer tank, from my understanding, the tank would be a good size for it

I agree skunk loaches are really good at getting rid of snails, however if you need to remove the loach afterwards they are extremely hard to catch unless their is nowhere to hide.
True, forgot about how many hours it took me to get it out after... :facepalm:

I've had two males in a planted three footer (one of them was young and look like a female ok?) and were actually quite good together but I dont recommend it, I've found it much easier on all the fish in the tank if there is as little aggression as possible and I think it only worked because the tank was so big in comparison to the fish; I had a slightly smaller 29 gallon and there was aggression all over the show with one male and three females. Even just females are right pains to deal with in many respects.
I'd stick to just one male if possible, with a smaller tank just for a female? See, an excuse to get more tanks :slfg:

The bigger loaches like yoyos or angelicus will take out the trumpet snails, the chains only can get the young ones so can sometimes keep a small population under control but don't gt rid of them as such. Just keep in mind that you'll lose fry if you do put loaches in. If you were to remove the fry for a few days, see if you can borrow someones skunk loach(es) and don't feed them - they are one of the fastest snail eating loaches I know, amazing to see them work really :roey:

Glass cats would be cool, not sure about how well they'd fit though.

Acidic water takes quite a while to do much, I'd try snail traps if you don't want to disrupt the tank much

Yeah, I'm getting a vision 180 quite soon, but I'll have a eheim 2213 or 2215 running on it at least for more filtration. I quite like the look of the internals too. Yeah, I've heard a number of complaints about the rio 180 lights, but nothing about the other sizes, so who knows. lol

I used to have gourami and dwarfs in my rio 240, its an excellent tank for it, I didn't notice any extra work needed for a blackwater tank either

Anyone else kinda looking forward to the Zombie Apocalypse? I have to say I'd pick a baseball bat over a cricket bat though, looks more serious I think. And everyone knows looks are what will count at that point. :slfg:
