I guess it just depends on the person who makes it wat wood they use cuz different people have different experiences.

for everything else it sez tanalized and weathered square pine for the other stuff but marine ply for the base

I don't think you would have to have a certain thickness for the marine ply base but just thick enough to support the stuff inside....... or do u mean length?
