  1. Don't normally post here, but I'm in a new happy fish mood... Firstly try for three rather then two, as two might snap at each other and plus they seem much much happier in a group (I have five). Mine are eating a cocktail of Hikari Food Sticks, Cichlid Gold, JBL NovoStick M, tubifex worms, floating blood worms and the odd insect now and then. If you only choose one dry food, go for the Hikari Food Sticks; the pantadon butterflyfish is part of the Osteoglossiformes order and so is the Arowana and they share a similar wild diet (well the scale of the food is different) so therefore it made kinda sense. Size; expect 9-12cm when grown up. Mine are currently happy living with Senegals, Delhezi, Palmas, Leopard Ctenopomas and Kribs (spot the theme!) in a planted tank. Avoid small fish like neons, danios, hatchetfish, etc... they'll just "disappear". Also I have a mix tall and floating plants and some long bits of driftwood that stick out of the tank water surface for the pantadons. They like the floating water sprite and tiger lotus (unless there is a senegal tangled up in the lotus stems and thrashing around). 'Chasing' each other in the upper pieces of driftwood is fun to watch. If you can't get some real floating plants, grab a couple of those fake plastic floating lily pads, seems to claim the fish down. Also a shaded corner is a good idea. I have a triangle of black plastic under the lights covering one corner of the the tank and they seem to dart to and from it quite happily or when startled. The pH in my tank is fairly stable 7.2, temperature is 27°C, very good filtration (2x CF1200s on a 300ℓ tank) but keeping the surface flow/disturbance low; they don't like it and nor does the CO2. Also make sure the tank is well covered, not as bad escape artists like arowanas or polys; but will still jump if given the chance. So go for a canister filter or top trickle filter rather then Hang-On-Back or sump/overflow setup. Need any more info?
  2. Missed a great photo op an hour ago... senegal, albino sen, delhezi, and one of my new palmas all in the same spot in the tank. How often does one see four different polys at once in a kiwi tank :happy2: , could have added an ornate from the other tank for complete set of five, but I fear it would eat my new palmas then trash the bolbitis and tiger lotus. My personal set a bit more rounded out.. And just did a quick head count... I've hit the 20 mark, I think I REALLY need help :nilly:
  3. Oh good. It's just that I'm from a US/UK forum background. Right I'll need egg whites, sugar, pinch of salt and few drops of malt vinegar... same as meringue right? Arrrr... I see. Salami = Long Piece of Air Dried Meat = Long Dried Up Fish Behind Stand Mine are woofing down market shrimp, novotabs and massivore at a rather large rate.
  4. Tiger worms are not the best for fish from memory. Plus they might be too big for guppies :-? What he might have meant is bloodworms/tubifex/micro/white worms. Plus with livebearers you'll need some green in the diet. Personally I'd 'er to a food with spirulina in the mix and 'whatever'-worms once week as a treat.
  5. Jumpers/Escape Artists? Or something else Crickey, hmmmm... A lot. Everything from Bumblebee gobies to Silver Arowana. Started off with my parents sump and goldfish back in the early 80s. I find the progression of filter technology I've owned quite interesting. From corner air filter and undergravel filters to FX5 and Eheim Pros. (Although I miss confess I'm fond of AquaOne CF1000/1200s) Proud to say I've never owned a Neon Tetra. Palaver, not Pavlova.
  6. Whoa...that was quick! Thanks. I hear(read) you have a few polypterus as well. Tried to get one for the first post... didn't go well. Senegals, Ornates, Delhezi, Palmas, African Butterfly Fish, Spotted Climbing Perch, Kribs, Jewel and Elephant Nose. Thanks too.
  7. Hello I'm a new member to this forum; but I'm not new to fish keeping, have been keeping fish for on/off/on again for about 25 years. Currently I have a 600L assorted monster tank, 120L Planted African, 75L Brackish, 70L Fish only Marine and a 42L Planted without fish. Thought I'd join and see what all the palaver is about.
