  1. I like big plecos but you only ever see big gibbys and other commons. I want something a little different so I am pleased to have a couple of different species that will grow quite big - even though I have to wait a while for them to grow up.
  2. Hi ya its only wee at the moment. has a nice marbling pattern on its body and almost looks a bit greenish grey. It has a white lyre tail edged with black but as is a juvenile its hard to tell what it will grow up to look like. it also looks like an L203 but I guess time will tell... The royal is a beautiful fish, its about 15 cm at the mo. such a slow grower. Ive had him for less than a year now but he has doubled in girth if not in length, lol. Will get proper pics when I move them into their new 550 litre home. cheers

  4. Hi there I am in Birkenhead, been here for 6 months. I have a growing collection of all kind of wonderful fish, some I have had for ages some I have recently bought. I am just recently getting back into the hobby though, so far I have acquired 4 tanks which somehow is not yet quite enough,... 4ft - Synodontis, gourami, elephant nose, gold line panaque (L027c) 4 large fat clown loaches, gold panchax, betta splendens, ctenopoma, bristlenose another 4ft - assorted rainbows, port hoplo catfish and bristlenoses 2ft - 3 x Flash pleco (L204) 2x corydoras 30ltr - glowlight danios + cherry barbs I am hoping to get another couple of plecos eg gold nuggets, royal panaque or queen arabesques. Yep, I am obsessed with plecos at the moment lol.
  5. once upon a time I had a nice little pantadon butterfly fish however I must have been a bit distracted when i was cleaning out the tank one day- my plants were growing prolifically so I was thinning them out- especially the floating indian fern- he used to hide amongst the fern. I think i scooped him out and chucked him out with the plants in the bin! he was never seen again.
  6. I think it is great here to be able to read comments and discuss problems that arise, I don't know anyone in Auckland who has fish and it is great to talk to other hobbyists. I used to belong to the fish club in wellington years ago. what a wonderful thing to internet is. my fish are great, I just bought two tiny weenie marble angels today from Jansens cos I felt sorry for them, they have been there for so many weeks and they havent grown at all. they are really nice little guys and I hope they do well with my other fish who are all so much bigger than them
  7. I have plenty of live plants growing, I will also give the spinach leaf a go and see what happens.
  8. Hi I was wondering if anyone has got one of these, or if someone can help me. I am a bit worried that the one I have got is getting enough to eat, does anyone know what other foods these guys like. At the moment he just goes around sucking on the glass but I dont have very much algae growth in my tank. thankyou for your input, any advice appreciated
  9. That is so awesome. You lucky thing you! what fish do you have in there? kinda hard to see in the photos. I would get in trouble if I tried to get a tank as big as that, my flat is so small, boo hoo
  10. do they get agressive to each other? and can they be kept together if they are all a sim. size? btw, there is the biggest Clown Knife fish ever in Wet Pets in Palmy, it was HuMonGus! pretty alien and scary looking but I'm not too keen on getting one of those but I like oddball fish however
  11. IThey are pretty cool looking fish but can someone please tell me how big they grow and if they are suitable for a community aquarium. Also what do they like to eat? thankyou for any info
  12. I recently got myself an aquarium, have just started with tropicals in the last few months. I have a pearl gorami, 4 rainbows, 2 clown loaches, 1 siamese fighter, 1 flame dwarf gorami, a peppered cory and a borneo sucker. My fighter is definatly the boss of the tank at the moment and also my favorite fish. I used to keep fish up to 6 years ago. My set-up then was quite extensive; including a large cichlid tank for oscars, a 5 footer community setup and about 5-6 36" and 24" tanks for breeding (White clouds, Axolotls, fancy goldfish, and various others. etc etc..) and also a few ponds dug into the backyard for shubunkins, comets and turtles. but as I have't been in a position to keep fish for the last 6 years I have found that I have forgotten a lot. Also there are many new species available that I would like to learn about I am really excited about getting a new aquarium at this point as I realise just how much I loved keeping and raising fish. I am glad I found this site as I am sure I will be able to learn a lot and refresh my memory on a lot of things as well. so I will probably talk to many of you and pick your brains if you don't mind
