  1. Thanks for the reply Caryl.

There are all sorts of ideas being tossed around as it is evident the FNZAS cannot continue as it has in the past. If you are a club member, you need to speak to your club officers or delegates as discussions have been held in the executive area of the forums and the thread is able to be seen by exec, club officers and delegates. An email was sent to all instructing them to read it then take the ideas and suggestions to their clubs at the next meeting and request feedback and more ideas on how the members wish to proceed. As it has been the holiday break, many clubs have not yet had their first meeting for the year. I know CTT and MAC have had theirs and have discussed the concepts suggested in the thread and given their feedback.

To remove clubs would require a Constitutional change, not to mention a name change, as FNZAS stands for Federation of NZ Aquatic Societies. This does not mean it can't happen but we need members' input, ideas and suggestions! This is done at club level, not here in the forums, as this is not the place to discuss society business.

  2. quick question..... what kind of snails????

to be honest - im not sure what kind they are - the ones i have seen are very small - like 3mm in length so far

oh and i have put CYCLE into start the cycling process but was thinking about chucking a fish or 2 into the tank before i go on holiday (will still be in town to feed but didnt want to throw everthing i have at it when im not really available to do any water changes etc..)

  3. i wont be putting fish in till after the xmas break as the tank is at work and i dont want to have to come in to clean the tank and feed fish etc - hadn't thought about loaches - whats a cheap loach that wont get too big ? only have a 110L tank so dont want clowns that they get far too big.

  4. Hi All

I have a new tank with no fish etc in yet - however with some plants i managed to have some snails - whats the best method of killing the snails before i put fish in the tank?

    cheers

    Skip

  5. I was using a hose to empty the tank only until recently - I bought one of those tank empty/fill gadgets ages ago and put it somethere then forgot where I put it. Recently I found it and started using that to fill the tank as well. I only wish that I found it ages ago now....Buckets are ok for small tanks where you only need to remove 30L or so but anything over that starts to be a pain...

I don't think I have used water conditioner in the last 2 years. It seems I kill my fish when I put in too much flourish excel and flourish comprehensive

  6. getting back on topic - i think there is a lot of evidence that we haven't seen and heard from the media - I went and watched about an hour of the case while a colleague was on the stand giving his evidence..... unfortunately the media pick and choose what they are going to share with us.

the police must have had enough evidence to charge him with the murder or else why bother ?? the whole 3 shots thing is a bit of a moot point as anyone who has enough experience can reload a single or double barrel shotgun in rapid succession (we had a multi gun shoot up at our gun range and the guy with the single barrel shotgun won out over guys with 8 shot semi autos)

  7. i have an iphone 3gs and i have no issues with it. I have a couple of mates with the galaxy s2 and they love - its all personal choice - if you want to "play" with the phone then the s2 is for you - if you just want a phone that works without needing to "play" then i would suggest an iphone.

like you say not much in it for price but iphones just work

  8. yeah i have done it on Air New Zealand - from akl to wlg, and will possibly be doing it again shortly :) if you have the fish wrapped in paper and what not they may require that you take the bag out so they can check underneath the bag to make sure you are not carrying anything dangerous - also make sure they dont XRAY it

  9. Oh ok, will it go away by itself?

Cool, how long did you have to soak it for? Had to hunt around for some interesting pieces, most were boring straight ones despite the beach being covered in DW.

maybe - its been a while since i have had that brown algae - i put a golden algae eater in my new tanks - they love the stuff.

it may take a few days to a few weeks - it all depends on the wood - but i have heard that boiling it will help - I assume they are only small bits since its a small tank so it should be on the few days side with boiling

  10. I have some pond liner that i got from a local gardening shop with some RES turtles in there and they havent punctured it.. its less than 1mm thick but feels quite strong. that is probably the cheapest way you could go.
