  1. Hey guys, I'm actually looking for a new career in the corporate scene. I have a Bachelors in Arts and Grad Dip in HR. Thinking of moving into either an entry level HR role or even as a recruitment consultant. Been working in retail so far so if any of you know of any opportunities please do tell me, I really need a more stressful job T.T

Am in Auckland by the way, so if the workplace is in Auckland City, even better.

  2. Hey hey, just wanted to share some songs that we used in our wedding recently.

My wife walked down the aisle to "Arithmatic" by Brooke Fraser and it was amazing, when we were signing the marriage certificate our friend was singing "I promise you" by Ronald Keating. I believe you might like the latter song especially, look it up on Youtube and find the one with lyrics.

  3. hmmm.... ok.... can you also ask your dad to find out how much it'll cost to bring in guppies from asia? I've been seeing some really nice varieties there that I don't think we'll ever find here.

Saw one in my friend's pond that looked as though it had a peacock's feather for a tail. very ncie that one and he doesnt' even know it haha.

  4. talking about bottom feeders... do we have freshwater prawns here in NZ? I saw my friend's aquarium when I was overseas and she had some small prawns in her aquarium that was feeding on the fish food that fell to the bottom. I thought that was a pretty good idea.

  5. roast greasy?

Not if its done right (cooked a roast pork last night and a roast chicken in the over now)

Alienara, your right about those meat pies and note that I called them meat pies, not as most are and simply pies

There use to be a great Chinese Resturant there called The Bamboo Grove that had great tucker and the best deep fried ice cream I have ever had.

Although not in Auckland, my favorite 2 resturants were the small resturant at Horuru Falls(Bay of Islands) thats in the Palorama Motels and also the Pepper tree at Coromandel. At the confrence this year we also went to a Tai resturant in Whitianga. Ive forgotten the name but will be back there as well

For a lunch bar type of place, again streets out in front of all else is the Bakery at Coromandel. A bit dearer but real nice tucker.

Alanmin may be able to back me up on a couple of those

Mate where's that bamboo grove that you went to? is it in auckland? not many places have those deep friend ice creams here in NZ

  6. OMG are you guys like zombies that have come back from the dead to haunt us? LOL almost everything i'm hearing here is so otherworldly!!!! zev has the milk delivered by horse and cart!?!??!?! HOW OLD ARE YOU MAN!??!?!?! i just find this extremely amazing as the only time that i can imagine a horse and cart is in one of those medieval novels that i read...

  7. Omg i could only remember 2/25 of everything there.... you guys are definitely older than dirt... i remember hearing of those things from my parents and even my grandparents used to tell me of those things...

This is gonna be a lil different as I hail from another country, but my mom used to tell me about how they could survive on 20c a day, my grandad still has a RPM(?) player in his house and it WORKS!!! When I was a kid, my grandma would take me to a chinese coffee shop where she would have a coffee with her mates and poured some onto the saucer for me to drink. the coffee isn't the same as those that we get from starbucks nowadays, it's not fancy but it was strong. Basically it was black coffee, no milk or sugar with hot water. I remember the days when putting a person on the phone on hold meant placing the reciever on a box that played music and when mobile phones were basically bricks that were used as weapons to ward off potential thieves. I remembered the day when the first cyber cafe was opened and prior to that we had shops that had video consels that we paid some money in order to play any game we wanted.

  8. Oh gosh, now you've got me all hungry... lol. Make sure u pop by places like The Occidental, De Fontein, and De Post Belgian restaurants for the most heavenly mussles around... otherwise feel free to pay me to cook them for you... LOL

  9. Come on now guys, I'm sure that there's more people who are interested in food as well.. and I'm talking about really good food, the type that fills you up and gives u a warm fuzzy feeling after you've eaten it.

I've just started a new blog about food called NZFood blog to blog about the places that I've eaten which I think is worthy to be mentioned. It's only based in Auckland right now though as that's where I live, but if any of you Aucklanders know of good food places, do tell me so I can go try it out myself too.

For the rest of you who just want to have a good read and ease the whole process of thinking of a place for dinner or lunch, the address is www.NZFood.blogdrive.com

  10. Have you had discus before? I use daltons propagating sand as the base of my planted discus tank and it seems to work well. Too fine a sand will clog the filters as the tank needs to be kept clean with regular water changes and vacuuming stirs up any loose matter on the base of the tank. Heres a pic to give you some idea of what it looks like. The colours of the fish will stand out more depending on what colour plants you put in and the lighting on the tank.

If you vacuum it doesn't it suck up the sand as well?

  11. sounds like possibly Peripatus, which are really cool. They are kind of living fossils. There's an article about them on this page http://soilbugs.massey.ac.nz/onychophora.php but the pics aren't very blue, I've seen really blue ones, depends on what part of the country you are in

    This is the bluest type:

cool huh? Image from http://www.rodmorris.co.nz/insect_gallery1.htm by Rod Morris

OMG that actually looks like something that came out of a space movie or something... kinda looks aquatic as well >.< wonder what would happen if a giant centipede met one of those.

Btw there are carnivorous snails?!?!?!?!? how the heck do they chase down their prey?

  12. hmmmmm... water very murky - not keen to throw them in just yet. It has a cloudy white haze that I 'm not sure how to get rid of

If its not tannin then the water prolly needs to set. Have you been cycling the water? Probably would be good to cycle the water with the driftwood in it to prepare it for the fishes?

  13. Hubby, made mine out of 18mm MDF, we had 2 pieces of the 18mm MDF glued together at the sides, Front and Back of the Stand, then had it Lacquered in Black Gloss, looked fantastic when it was finished.

Hey lyndy, can i get a photo of it as well as the plans for it? am quite interested to see it and collect some plans so i can build one later.

  14. oh boy.... i would actually suggest that you use fishing lines to tie down certain parts of it to rocks that you're gonna put in... otherwise you might even want to try to use mesh over certain parts of the driftwood, weigh it down with rocks and then let moss grow on it? i'm just imagining solutions here, might not work tho so if someone sees any problem with this, you better speak out!!! lol

  15. also how do you part with the cute little babies who all look so PRETTY?

make 3 tanks, separate your male fishes into those 3 so that there aren't as many fighting fishes in each of them. Depending on how many fishes you have you might even want to go for 6 tanks. let them fight it out and the fittest will survive instead of culling them.
