ive been running mine 24/7 for years now with no problems, adults, babies, all sizes. just make sure your temp doesnt go above about 38c for your eggs. also make sure they get some water, wet grass is good, because the 24 hour heat/light dries the air out heaps. the main affect this fast life seems to have is shortening it a bit. my adults live for about one month, compared to up to 6 months outside in the cold (where they could only feed for as little as one hour a week when the sun hit, in early winter)

i use the variable 3.5-12v adaptors on my fans so i can find just the right level of noise and air movement. they are slightly more to buy though.

that looks real good, just wonering tho have you insulated the cealing/roof as thats probably where the most heat will escape?

hay guys just wondering what the best way to transport a jardini from one tank to another would be? hes in tank A :100L, pH7 to 7.3, NH3+ 0, NO3- 5 to 10 ppm. tank B : 570L, pH7.5, NH3+ 0, NO3- 0. (its a new tank one week old) can i catch him and put him straight into the new tank or do i have to bag him and treat him like a newly bought fish. ive had him for two weeks hes about 6" long. arowanas are aawwsome!!

and what is european bracing alan?

yea ill probably put a protective plastic sheet or something down on the bottom to prevent scratches etc.

thancks guys thats what i wanted to hear ive read the article on glass thickness calculating, but found it pretty heavy reading and it seems to say use 25mm glass for a tank alot larger, hate to think how much that would cost! (also the glass merchants here in dunnos laugh and look puzzled when i say 12mm glass, some will even have to order 10mm glass in :roll: )

i wanted to make a tank out of 10mm glass with these dimentions: 1500mm L x 800mm W x 600mm H thats 720 liters or 185 gallons. i will probably put bracing in it (those bits of glass that span the width of the tank). also does anyone have an idea of the value of that much glass. its going to be my new jars eventual home. cheers malcolm

what sort of arowanas are allowd in the usa, is it still just pearl silver and black? that would seem like a big market too

if you clean the glass regularly (weekly) it will prevent water stains taking hold.

to get rid of stubborn water stains i use a brand new razor blade and scrape the affected area. keep it wet and soapy the whole time though. if that doesnt work, use the strongest acid you can find and carefully rub the affected area before squeegeeing. extreme care in required though. the best acid for the job, and really the only one that always works, is hydroflouric acid. but its pretty well restricted now in nz and for good reason, extremly toxic stuff.

as a pro window cleaner i recon the way to go is using a mop and squeegee. use sunlight dishwashing liquid in a bucket, about the same amount as you would to do the dishes maby a little more. a window mop can be replaced by a clean rag, small towel, or even the dish cloth. what ever you use, ring it out so it stops dripping, then rub the glass all over untill you get a soapy bubbly lather over the front of the tank. now get the squeegee and in one steady fluid action pull it from one side to the other. never stop or start in the middle. wipe the blade with a clean dry rag and repeat until done (two maby three strokes). if you keep getting streaks wipe the starting edge of your tank as well as your squeegee between strokes. dont hesitate as the soap will quickly dry and needs to be sqeegeed asap. now wipe only around edges and your done, hopefully. you can buy a squeegee from the department store, supermarket, warehouse or even a cleaning supply shop. if you are concerned about bubbles getting into tank, you can leave the top one or two cm soap free.

i see they were talking about evolution occuring in the cane toad population right now! the powerfull swimmers would seek each other out to mate and produce even stronger swimmers, to cover more of australia in an even shorter time. thats pretty cool
