you have assumed with your calculation that your heaters will be on 24/7.
This same question came up last year and people decided that there is not that much difference to tanks from summer to winter. Filter & lights uses the same power. The heater will use a small amount more but would not be overly noticeable if you live in a nice warm home.
If you are wanting to save power you would be best to look at other areas such as making sure you fridge works properly and also you can do the dishes by hand rather than relying on the dish washer.

Freshwater mussels (kakahi) are not suitable for living in containment.
They, as has already been mentioned, require very large amounts of food which is very hard to provide in an aquarium.
I actually thought it was P44 that said that a few months ago but i could not find it to put up a link
-
I would support them but their actions are regularly illegal so I do not. As far as I am consigned they should both be prosecuted as organised crime groups.
-
You can do it but it makes the tank a lot heavier. Last time I moved house one tank had the plants and some substrate and the other tank had all the fish in it

Road trip Scott????
It would be worth a road trip for someone and they might not have to pay for the gas.
I would actually pay for someone to collect some good bits of driftwood -
I never quarantine fish from the shops just stright into the tank
Same here
As of your original question... All the LFS i visit just put their fish in the sale tanks. Some do put sick looking fish in to quarantine but most just put them in to the tanks and then treat the whole tank.

I feel many people are stuck in the past! Nuclear energy is THE cleanest, greenest source of energy.
People love hydro and wind power. Has any one actually considered the cost and resources needed to make the turbines and windmills? Resources = fuel = huge economic and environmental cost. Nuclear power is much much cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable. The top minds in the world are exploring newer and better ways to dispose of nuclear waste.
What about the geothermal plants that use no fuel other than the steam that is already being created naturally. The only cost to that would be the materials that are required to built the facility which I would assume is a lot less than required for a nuke plant. Also there is very little damage if it malfunctions because they just vent the steam before it gets to the plant.
If nuclear plants are so clean and green then why do the top minds have to think up such ingenious ways to dispose of the waste?

Red Cross have said that people going down there to "help" would be a bad idea. They have professionals that are there working and are the best people for the job. Also you will be taking a bed and water that a victim will be needing

What flee treatment are you using? Is it a supermarket one or is it from a vet?

Good results. How many people where there to help?

Hang the pump in the sump so that it is not touching anything and the water should stop mots if not all the noise

Have a look at this http://www.consumer.org.nz/powerswitch/step_one
When you are thinking about power companies there is more to think about than price. You need to see what their customer service is like e.g. if you power is cut off are you going to be able to contact them to get the issue fixed or are you going to be listening to hold music for 17 hours till you get to speak with a real person
