ive set up a tank last nite with sand in it that i washed out, its stiil a bit cloudy this morning, am going to get the filter running today and do a few syphons of the sand with my gravel cleaner to try clean it up a bit more...and do a few water tests before i put any fish in

is it possible to use sand from the sea in an aquarium? would it contain to much salt? how much would you have to wash it? boil it?

any help would be appreciated....the fry started swimming this morning...how often should they be fed...water changes ect....
-
A couple of ways I keep my nitrates low are:
.more than one water change.
.less feeding - every 3 days. The fish spend more time looking for food so are always out and about.
.plants growing at the top with wet roots - emerse? This way the leaves get CO2 from the air and grow steadily.
This is my 80g with peace lily's in the top.
would the peace lillys be the same as i saw in a local garden centre, but without the soil??

Only if they were dead
hahahahahaha
-
Didn't take any home did you?
And re:Killing them, Every little bit helps.
no! already have far to many fish! would make good feeder fish for someone tho!
-
please ring Doc, and either ask them, to destroy them or ask for permission to destroy them yourself and use for fishfood or somehting
could be hard to kill them all, there could be thousands there! i followed the creek for a fair distance and was able to catch them wherever i tried from fry to large gravid females!
-
yep, they were gambusia affinis..and plenty there to!
-
was down the back of a family members house over xmas and noticed in the stagnent looking creek some fish swimming around, off to try catch some today to see what they are...anyone have any idea what they most likely could be? :-?
-
yep that was just the advise i needed! thanks , i put my boesmani's in there own tank with a sponge filter and covered the bottom with some java moss, have been feeding them bloodworm, checked them this morning and found some eggs! :bounce: ... thanks again for the info!

'You will do better if you seperate the males and females and condition them up for a couple of weeks then do the cold water thing at night and they generally will spawn in the morning.thanks
