  1. Yeah, they're in brackish water. It drives me crazy how pet stores advertise them as being fresh water fish with 'addition of salt can be beneficial'!
  2. I have 4 BBGs, but 1 has a broken yellow stripe with black in it. I found an article which says that the ones with broken stripes are actually Brachygobius nunus, or Golden Banded Gobies. Is this correct? Do they interbreed? I'd like to have a go breeding them, but obviously need to have the same species first!
  3. I've got a tank of guppies that I think may have gill fluke (out of over 100, maybe 5 will flash a day, so maybe not). I've tried dewormers, and would like to try Droncit. How much would I put in a 100l tank? If they don't have gill fluke, will it harm them? I'm guessing it will just get rid of any nasties. Also, what method do you use to add the Droncit to the tank? I crush the tablet and dissolve it in warm water, then add it to the tank. Any other ways?
  4. I had a similar problem with my tropical tank a few months ago. Luckily, I caught it in time and no fish died. I simply cleaned the filter, threw out the carbon (in all my other filters too!), did a 20% water change, added a bit of salt, let it filter for 24hrs then put the fish back in and it was fine. I've stopped using carbon as a result, and add a bit of salt every so often, which seems to help all the fish too.

    guppy record

I have hundreds of guppies and the big females lay over 100 at a time. The females are much more likely to eat the babies than males - because they want to prevent other genes I guess. If you separate the mother, more will survive. I tend to just leave them in a well planted tank with lots of Java Moss, and enough survive to make me happy.
