  1. Hi there I had a quick read and so far I don't think anybody has mentioned feeding...If you overfeed your fish then there will be more waste causing the water to go green If what you have fed them isn't gone after3mins then you are feeding them too much. I am pretty new also to fishkeeping however I've had a few goldfish in my years. I understand that you are most likely starting off with goldfish due to their ease of keeping, but when they do grow too big if you decide to keep this tank running and rehome the goldfish then there are some cool coldwater fish out there, eg danios, long finned danios are really beautiful, and mountain minnows. These can also be a tropical fish if you then decide that you want to go tropical you can Oh and the syphon...make sure that the small end is going into a bucket that is below the height of the tank...that way gravity keeps the water coming. I had problems with that at first too but now its a breeze as soon as it gets exposed to air it'll stop pumping...when you stick it into the gravel it'll suck up the waste but leave the gravel behind. But yeah despite what the packet says you do need to suck it to get it going Hope that helped
  2. lol yeah...note to self...inspect tank accessories properly before use! Angels are already cleaning the glass surface so hopefully more eggs will be layed soon! Oh and what other fish can go with angels? As I wanna set up the 3rd tank but if the angels lay eggs then I would like to remove them and put them in the 3rd tank also...
  3. Well I accidently put all my angel fry into a death trap 2day Came home this morning to find that there were only around 30fry left so decided to put them in a fry tank...this fry tank could only fit in my community tank so I put it there thinking it would be ok...moved the fry into their new home and came back after half an hour to find that they had all gone...then to my horror i watched the last one squirm out of a tiny hole and into the mouth of a vey hungry albino somethink (got given it and have no idea what it is) So yeah that kinda sucked So now I have swapped my angels setup round and put them in a bare bottemed tank that is shorter so I can access it easier...So hopefully they will breed again shortly. SO GUTTED!!!!
  4. Oh and would post pics but my batteries for my camera died....
  5. LOL update: theres only about 40 fry left so if this lot don't survive then I'll set up another tank for the next lot...I think I 4gt to mention that the eggs were layed on the filter which is too big to remove from the tank as it's in a stand and I have to pull the tank out to get big things in and out...so I couldn't remove them whilst they were eggs or wrigglers...wasn't expecting them to spawn so soon after moving them down from aux. Gonna move the tank upstairs soon so will change round the setup when I move into the bigger room
  6. [list=] I have googled them and they are wild type angels and am feeding them bbs 3 times daily as they are now free swimming except they are in a planted tank with the parents only. Have a fluval sponge filter but i turned it off as i was advised to cos it may suck up the fry...
  7. haha yeah thats me ....don't really understand why it was so offensive and had to be changed but hey each to their own any suggestions on how to raise my angel fry? Really want them to become nice healthy young as the parents are gorgeous...
  8. Hi there I'm a student living in Mount Maunganui and am currently studying Graphic design have so far got 2 tanks: The 1st one is an 80litre tank that has A sunset gourami, a swordtail, a molly, 2 bristlenoses, 3 albino guppies, sum neons, danios and mountain minnows. My 2nd tank is around 70litres and has a breeding pair of wildtype angels and around 200 babies Am looking at setting up a 3rd tank for the babies as I have a 2ft tank spare however moneys a lil short for a heater and a pump for the spare underground filter so will just have to wait Any suggestions or help offerd is completely welcome as I am really new to the whole aquarium and having lots of babies...well thats something completely new! I have got a brine shrimp hatchery set up and I am feeding the babies 3times a day however had to turn the filter off as the babies kept getting sucked up so have only gt one underground filter running so cleaning is just neverending atm! Oh and thanks for reaccepting me (my last account evlb1tch got deleted after 2days cos the name wasnt good enough....which is weird cos in the 4years I've used it on forums tm and blogs I've never had a problem) Thanks
