Hi Caryl, The goldfish are fed alternately on flakes, mini sinking sticks, freeze dried shrimp, and only recently, boiled peas. I started noticing the white stringy poo when I fed them the shrimp for 2 days, but only Henry has white poo, and not Rex. The white poo has been appearing for the past 3 days. The weird thing is, he'd poo the colour as his food, followed by white poo. But then on the 3rd day, it's been just white stringy poo. Not entirely sure if I should put him on medicated food?

Hi There, My girlfriend has 2 small goldfish (about 6-8cm) in her 40 litre tank. One comet and one shubunkin... (rex and henry btw) Recently she noticed that the Henry has been pooing long white stringy poop... And she's worried thats its an internal bacterial infection... Anyone has any clue? With tried feeding them peas to clean out their digestive track but don think this is working. They look fine and healthy so far. regards, Lester

Bearded dragon breeders in Wellington?
Lesta3474 replied to Lesta3474's topic in Reptiles and Amphibians
Ahh... Well I didn think it would be easy... Definitely hardwork.. plus lots of trial and errors... I guess if i were to consider it i need to have the space.. which is why i said for the future.. not something that i can do now. I have time to consider what i want to do. (I like to plan ahead though... May not always be a good thing...) Did some research and I think the maturity age is about 18 months of age or more? Could possibly get older dragons to start of with... Thanks for the info! -
Hello Guys, Wondering if there are any bearded dragon breeders in Wellington? If not, I'll put it on my to-do list for the not too distant future. Was initially thinking of breeding siamese fighters but I think there are quite a few Siamese fighter breeders in Wellington i think so I'll leave this to them to supply our region. :bounce: Hopefully dragon breeding is a good investment.... and loads of fun! Kind regards, Lester

No more importing for now unfortunately.. Its a very difficult process as I have just found out from the biosecurity website. And most importers are in Auckland...

lol! 200??! I wish i had room for more fish.. Thats awesome. Thanks for the info guys. :bounce:

Wow... all this time i was only doing 15% water changes to the tank every week... thinking any higher and my bacteria colony in my canister filter will suffer... I will be changing things from now on. How often do you do your water changes Ira? Once a week like tHEcONCH or twice a week?
-
wow really? I had no idea... I might consider altering my water change routine now.. How often do you do that kind of water change? I presume its great for planted tanks? I have a small algae problem (using strong lighting for certain plants) and i presume that kind of a water change could be the solution. Definitely will need to mix with hot water though... My Convicts will turn to popsicles if i don't.
-
80%?!! why? I always thought that would disastrous for the bacterial colony in the tank/filter, causing havoc with the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels in the tank?
-
Ah yes... Convicts... they're like rabbits ... Very prolific! Mine spawned twice already.. first time it beat up every fish in the tank.. so had to sell the rest... They are fiesty lil devils! Now the tank houses the breeding pair only. My fish are about 8-9 cm (male) and 5-6cm (female) but I read from other websites they can start breeding at 2.5 - 3 cm. (roughly 4 months old) How big is your tank? I'm suprised the other convicts are not being harrassed.

 I was considering using that too! But seriously... I am not sure about the whole copper pipes thiing... and was worried that i might be poisoning my fish... which is why i had always stick to cold water... So no negative effect in boiling the water right? Anyone disagree?
-
Ou? Boiling the water should not have any negative effect on the water then? I was worried about using boiling water... I might just do that then, mixing boiling water with tap water till its a the correct temp! :bounce: Thanks!
-
Thanks A.PROPHECY! I'll think about it. Still considering whether i should try this or not anyway... Hopefully I can find a nice Microlepis. I'm from Malaysia (Borneo Island - State of Sarawak) kinda bias...
-
Hi There, Not sure where this topic would go under so i figured beginners corner would be fine.. hope so! Now, NZ is pretty cold... well during winter anyway.... And when it comes to water changes... I find that I have to take quite a lot of time slowly adding the water into the tank because of the cold water from the tap. I tried leaving the water to age over night which did help increase the water temp but definitely not enough. Anyone has any tips regarding this? I find that the vacuuming and siphoning is a breeze but the topping up water into the tank seems to take ages. If this process can be improved, I guess it would be better for my fish and me too. :bounce:
-
Awesome! Thanks Ryanjury! :bounce:
-
Don't know... Haven seen one in the shops as yet... I heard that the Microlepis also grows slower and also not as big as the Pulcher.. is this true?
-
Need to curb my temptations!!! :bounce: Will Power!! :bounce: I know I'll probaby want more... But I think the space issue will put a stop to that... If not we won't even be having this 3ft tank conversation. I would have gone out and bought a much larger tank. because of space, I don think I'll be getting anymore then 1... But 1 is better then none! As long as I can definitely accommodate one... I don want to give my fish a crappy home.

Whoa! 1 pack a day. Thas crazy! Back when i used to keep a CT Siamese fighter i use to thaw out the bloodworms and feed him individual bloodworms... I presume with Large Tigers you just give them a whole cube? Do you apply the same priniciple to juveniles of 2 or 3''?
-
I think from LFS they are about 2 - 3 ''. And yes I am not getting fish that have already grown... no fun getting a large fish.. Would definitely want to keep it and have it grow bigger. More sense of achievement too! :bounce: My water change schedule is weekly.... 10 - 15% of tank water... This is what i do for my current 70L tank of Convicts... Running a 105 fluval canister as well... This practice will be migrated over to the Tiger tank. I assumed this would be sufficient. However, it is a carnivorous fish so i'd assume more ammonia in the waste... Mayb I need to bump up the frequency of water changes? Twice a week? Or once a week but do 20-25%? I wonder if thats actually too much? Or is there never too much...?

10'' tiger! I'd love to see that... How old is i now? Thanks for the advice David R. Have a better understanding of what is needed and will have some long hard thinking to do. If anyone has any further advice for me, that would be appreciated. I hope I'm not in over my head here trying to keep a Tiger in a 3 ft tank for 1 - 2 years...
-
Cool! Do you have a time frame for the tank upgrades Silvia-15? Does not have to be dead accurate. Just an estimate so I have a rough idea what I should be expecting in the next 1 - 3 years.
-
As a grow out tank which is why i was asking about the growth rate... So that for the next year or so I can make space for a larger tank. But I'm having second thoughts now... Mayb I should just make space first and then get the fish. What are your recommendations on the minimum requirements for a Tiger? 200L 4 ft tank at least?
-
Tank dimensions will 91cm x 38cm. I won't be filling it full of water though... Probably about 120L plus of water? Is this not enough for one Tiger? Tank max is 150L so might have to bump it up to that then. (tank will be upstairs in a wooden home which is why i don dare fill too much.. Afraid of the load on the floor.) You have details of the growth spurt? (inches in a year)
